I've started writing some poetry, for pretty much the first time ever, apart from a few verses of a caving song some years ago.
Once I'd started, it seemed much easier to carry on than I expected, I think partly due to having the need to tell a true story or describe a cave in proper order, since I always had a good idea of what words or actions I had to get in within the next few lines.
Rhyming was a little more difficult, since in a long poem (50+ 8-line verses) it can be hard to avoid using similar rhymes in different verses, and there is still the odd line (usually with a multisyllabic ending) where I ended up using 9 syllables rather than 8, but contracting the line would have made the rhythm awkward since the flow round the final word.

Well...you know...if you finish anything up, the Underguide needs submissions
How are you doing otherwise?

The epic is semi-finished - so far it covers the first 3 years of exploration, but there are many more years to go. (it's in an article of mine if you're interested). The underguide does sound worth considering.
Otherwise I'm not doing too bad - my fitness program is continuing fairly succesfully, but I'm still jobhunting. I'm currently thinking about the possibilities of becoming a lecturer - (there are jobs going in a part of the country I'm interested in). I don't know how good I might be, but I suppose there's only one way to find out.
How are you apart from the sleeping?

Oddly enough, I was caving with some Crewe people yesterday in N. Wales - they were visiting Ogof Llyn Parc in North Wales, and though I'm curently living in Stafford, I'm an NWCC member.
I'm afraid I don't know much about local clubs - my underground caving in the UK is mainly in the Dales with ex-Imperial College students, and/or NPC members, and my digging with NWCC on Wednesdays.
