Religion

I've just been on a religious message board & as I'm also reading the third part of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials - The Amber Spyglass, it's prompted me to put some thoughts down which may or may not be of interest.

Need for (a) Religion: Questions such as why are we here, etc need answering because we are an inquisitive Animal.

Need for (a) God: Someone mightier than we MUST be responsible for Life. Who?

Need for God's representative on the ground: Saying the Earth was created by God - be it by pre-historical people, ancient Greeks, Romans, Christians, Muslims, etc - needs to be reinforced by a corporeal visit every so often.

Why so many religions & why they "evolve":
Could it be that strong minded individuals feel that they are closer to God than the mass of people.
And use their power over the masses to elicit change to what they see as an ideal world.
And of course with each passing generation comes different ideas of what constitute "ideal"; ideas which are pomulgated by spokespersons of those generations.

Technologies & their impact on religious belief - discuss!

Religions evolve as each succeeding generation sees the need for change because the goal of perfection hasn't been achieved (and may never be) due to the Nature of Man.

To be continued.....smiley - smiley
