Lordy, lordy - Red Bull isn't the only thing to have wings! H2G2 appears to have flown from the Beeb.

By way of celebration I went to see Anonymous at the local flea-pit. Shakespeare didn't write his own plays and sonnets? They were written by the Queen's lover (who was also her son)? Get away from here you sacrilegious oink! Clever film though; much enjoyed!

Rise up good people

May 6th - date of UK election.
A chance to settle the score! My local MP, Austin Mitchell, has been Grimsby's representative for over 30 years. A couple of elections ago one of his slogans was "Austin Mitchell - servicing Grimsby". I thnk it can be safely said that after 30+ years, Grimsby has been well & truly "serviced". Time to go young man (the guy is 75 years of age).
And take your partner in crime (term used advisedly) with you. I saw Shona McIsaac (for it is she), MP for Cleethorpes, in a local mega store a while ago looking like the cat who got the cream. A few weeks later the MPs expenses storm broke. Who wouldn't be doing an impression of a cheshire cat knowing that anything & everything "bought" would in effect be a freebie.
Rise up good people & rid ourselves of these parasites.

Virgin Media Broadband upgrade

A flyer extolling the virtues of fibre optic - the mother of all broadband - popped through the letterbox a few days ago. The introductory offers for 2Mb, 10Mb & 20Mb were quite tempting. However being a Virgin subscriber these were of no use, but the monthly prices after the offer period certainly were. At present I'm paying £18 for a 2Mb connection whereas the post introductory price was half that. I contacted Virgin and after pressing the usual buttons for this service & that service got through to a pleasant young lady who stated that the offer was only for new subscribers. After pointing out that after the trial period the monthly price was twice what current users are paying, she apologised and offered an upgrade to 10Mb for £2 less than I'm paying now.
Marvellous!

The offer closes, according to the flyer, at the end of this month.

I went onto a broadband speed website - thinkbroadband.com - to check the present speed & will revisit tomorrow to check upgrade is in place.

After seeing my hard earned savings heading south over the past few weeks it's good to claw a little bit back!

Religion

I've just been on a religious message board & as I'm also reading the third part of Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials - The Amber Spyglass, it's prompted me to put some thoughts down which may or may not be of interest.

Need for (a) Religion: Questions such as why are we here, etc need answering because we are an inquisitive Animal.

Need for (a) God: Someone mightier than we MUST be responsible for Life. Who?

Need for God's representative on the ground: Saying the Earth was created by God - be it by pre-historical people, ancient Greeks, Romans, Christians, Muslims, etc - needs to be reinforced by a corporeal visit every so often.

Why so many religions & why they "evolve":
Could it be that strong minded individuals feel that they are closer to God than the mass of people.
And use their power over the masses to elicit change to what they see as an ideal world.
And of course with each passing generation comes different ideas of what constitute "ideal"; ideas which are pomulgated by spokespersons of those generations.

Technologies & their impact on religious belief - discuss!

Religions evolve as each succeeding generation sees the need for change because the goal of perfection hasn't been achieved (and may never be) due to the Nature of Man.

To be continued.....smiley - smiley
