Our nearest neighbor, and biggest trading partner. Kinda like a neighbor that you really don't like, but must smile at in the mornings ... Just to keep things civil.

*ahem* Canada is a country of it's own, allowed by Queen Victoria as of July 1st, 1867. Hence our celebrating July 1st, not their independence day of July 4th, 1776. We also celebrate the Monday nearest Queen Victoria's birthday of May 24th.
The Americans are very important to us, because of proximity and commerce. But then, you don't always like the chap you buy your goods from either, eh?

Nope, he's not ours in any way. Which is often such a relief.

*double-ahem* It's only a couple of pieces that insist on the French stuff. The rest of of are more than pleased to wear plaid, sing and skip about in the forest, earning an honest wage as lumberjacks.
Well, except for the 10 chaps that are obliged to wear Mountie-uniforms, and sing chorus. It just wouldn't be the same without them, ya know.

I never tire of that skit, and even have an MP3 of it around somewhere. Just for a day when I need a bit of a silly grin ...

Are you familiar with an actor, Bill Cosby? In his earliest years, he was a stand-up comic, and produced a number of albums of his stuff. Long before "I, Spy", the Cosby Show, or so many movies.
If milady comes home in a very brown mood, I only need to play one or two tracks of his stuff, and she is giggling. His own version of chats Noah had, with the Lord, his neighbors as he built his Ark. Or the scenarios about "natural childbirth", a visit to the dentist, his entertainment and fears as a child, ... I think I have 5 or 6 tapes of his stuff.

He really WAS very funny in the late 60's and early 70's. And like a lot of the folks then, he could be funny without swearing, being 'suggestive' or anything else. Just family-grade humour. He always brings out a smile for us.
