well, after much ado i am finally at my first destination in a long trip that will take 3 weeks and then bring me home to maui.
i'm in california now... specifically the monterey peninsula... specifically carmel (google image carmel beach ) for my high school reunion (girl's boarding school) and to make a commitment and close my storage unit and bring my stuff to maui...
one of my carry-ons was a cooler with 21 leis in it for my classmates !
then in a few days i am off to boston to my daughter's to enjoy them all... grandkids!!! and to help her organise her home
then cupla weeks later to dallas to visit oldest son and family for a few days...
then home again home again jiggety jig... and lo and behold lucky me i got a non-stop flight which is totally amazing! setting up a multi-destination plane ticket is very difficult on the inet because by the time you finish some of the legs of it are no longer available...
so it took 4 times and then finally talking with someone on the phone to make it 'take' so the non-stop leg returning me home is
...more again later

i spent my infanthood on that beach not to mention growing up on it and down there almost every day while caring for my dad before maui...

>>> to make a commitment and close my storage unit and bring my stuff to maui... <<<
got to my storage unit and it had a leak in it and that big storm last month ruined my electronics but did not touch the old family photos box... !! i had already decided to not close down the storage JUST YET but perhaps in a few months so i only took my old hippy skirt... the proprietor of the storage facility gave me a new unit with a month's rent off...
>>> one of my carry-ons was a cooler with 21 leis in it for my classmates ! <<<
bought them tuesday and gave them friday and saturday nite and they were still all pristine!!
>>> then in a few days i am off to boston to my daughter's to enjoy them all... grandkids!!! and to help her organise her home <<<
well, i am in boston now and she, her hubby and the grandkids are amazing and we are having fun but but BUT we havent started organizing the house yet ...we are using the book "It's All Too Much" by Peter Walsh... pretty neato keeno book... he says that, too often, our stuff has us rather than we have our stuff!
it is very cold here in boston and all the houses are sealed... (in maui most windows are open with screens on them) there are no leaves on the trees and everyone is wearing alot of clothes. i am wearing my down jacket in the house... everyone's accents are very bright and quick and people walk much faster here than they do in maui...
...more again later

i am still in boston and we have accomplished alot in organizing the house... but still tons more to do
also, the potty-training and anti-whining campaigns are progressing spottily (heh heh) but nonetheless progressing...
and i am teaching my granddaughter how to play jacks and hackysack...
my daughter has been counselling me in my love life and it turns out she is very very wise
oh, and i forgot, whilst in carmel i picked up a tin of spotted dick and a packet of ginger nuts just because the names caaaaaaarrrrrraaaaaaaack me up!!! (Longs Drugs always have a section filled with foodstuffs of a prevelant nationality represented in the town of business and evidently there are alot of English in Carmel-by-the-Sea Maui's Longs special foodstuffs section is Asian.

Hey Fluffy just looked at your pic's and back in 1979 I lived in that ice making building above the beech in Davenport ,our apartment was in what was the office ,yes lovely beach we picked lots of muscles off the rocks down their. On the other side of the road was a pottery/coffee shop .

Just looked on the h2g2 map and the building is still there, between the railroad tracks and the road opposite the Davenport ave /old San Jose rd junction , looks like the pottery/coffee shop has gone now and is a car park ,our apartment was on the Santa Cruz end and the building was a metal finish , we could watch the whales going past from the kitchen window. Also I once saw the building on a Clint Eastwood film made in the 80's

weeeeeeeelll..... as far as i know there is no Davenport around that area but i could be wrong... perhaps around Santa Cruze (northern point of monterey bay for those who don't know... across from southern point of monterey bay which is i believe monterey)
yes.... the monterey peninsula has been used extensively for hollywood movies and perhaps some international ones too... http://www.montereymovietours.com/tours.html

In your pic's album (shannan.net ) the fifth pic down is a pic of the beach below/behind our apartment about 8/10 miles north of Santa Cruz just below the cement factory .I used to go down to Carmel as well at the time but I really liked visiting Monterey Aquarium best if I had to pay to go anywhere .

Fair enough ,I do recommend that beach and looking at the map up close I think my old apart is now many apartments, when I was in it the rest of the building stored a few pre war 2 german cars and many juke boxes but the backside deck was behind our apartment and is still there .

yes... the Aquarium is pretty neato keeno but it is the only one i have ever visited (except for the one in Maui that i was not very impressed with but is probably great for kiddies)
The monterey penisula is a place where you don't have to spend money to get the best it has to offer!! You can even get inside the 17 mile drive for free... just put a ladder on top of your vehicle and drive thru like a workman...

Their is a nice big aquarium in Osaka that we have been to a few times ,they have smaller tanks around it to represent the different parts of the Pacific rim I know they have kelp from Monterey bay in one of them , pretty sure Hawaii is represented too
