Dull it was in that dawn to be alive

Did you wear the big dangly earrings tho, Pc?
I had an exceptional big and in yer face ones...they were whole silver lizards - they were rather imposing... I used to have massive hoops too...and hang a cross from one of them....
*cringe*
The 80's was fun for me, I left school and home at 16 (87) and had such fun freedom....

The dire cold war propaganda in a lot of movies always sticks in my mind!

I had a pair of big earrings a friend gave me for Xmas my freshman year of high school (prior to that I'd only worn studs), they were black lettering, one spelled "F---" and the other "You".
The following year I added a series of holes, put in silver hoops over graduated sizes. That's what I wear now, actually, though not as *big*.

Yep. Though I'll be a***d if I can think of an example right now.

Hmmm...the Rocky (III? IV?) with Dolph Lundgren off the top of my head.

On the other hand...every gig I went to seemed to be a Sandanistas benefit.
But then again...those were the days when Nelson Mandela was still a terrorist.

The 80s was the decade when I was married and childless. We went everywhere together, watched Star Trek (TNG) every night and went on foreign holidays to exotic places.

That sounds like it was a lot of fun! (Though I'm sure being married with children is fun in it's own right )

Yes, married with children is fun too! But very different.

Favourite saying from an old friend of mine: 'That's about as interesting as marital sex'
There was an R4 programme at the weekend about the 1980's 'Red Wedge' tour of various bands in support of the Labour Party (the usual suspects such as Billy Bragg, Paul Weller...plus a surprising appearance from Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet).
Anyway, there was a good quote from Richard Coles, keyboard player of The Communards. 'We didn't define the political zeitgeist. That was defined by George Michael lounging by a poolside in pink Speedos and sipping a cocktail.'
(In fairness, I reall that Wham did some Miners benefit gigs during the strike, and also played to families in NUM social clubs.)
