I think it also depends on your background - the "forces"/trenches humour is very black and I think if you do any job which deals witrh the darker side of life you tend to develop that side of your humour. I have shocked my colleagues a few times with some of my comments, but hey, if you're dealing with imminent mortality all time you have to laugh at it....
