Thought for the day
Hypatia Posted Jul 14, 2004
The moon is one, but on agitated water it produces many reflections.
Similarly ultimate reality is one, yet it appears to be many in a mind agitated by thoughts.

Thanks, Hypatia.
Not a good thing, to be barking at the moon!
Love, ed.

I wouldn't bark at the moon - it's American isn't it?
Now the sun is different
Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the mid-day sun

Here's one that popped up in my inbox this morning. I think it's lovely.
When the world arises in me,
It is just an illusion:
Water shimmering in the sun,
A vein of silver in mother-of-pearl,
A serpent in a strand of rope.
From me the world streams out
And in me it dissolves,
As a bracelet melts into gold,
A pot crumbles into clay,
A wave subsides into water.

I hardly knew it was here myself, but it seems to have taken on a life for the moment, momenta. Talk to yourself, and you get more sense....from others!
I smile a lot and laugh a lot, and feel closer for it.
Now for Tom Paine (1737-1809):-
"The sublime and the ridiculous are often so nearly related that it is difficult to class them separately. One step above the sublime; makes the ridiculous; and one step above the ridiculous makes the sublime again."
Love, both sublime and ridiculous, ed.

When the tears roll down your cheeks unbidden and free and all of your emotions fuse into a One,ineffable. Then the one true Love has touched you to and at the core. That is healing.
Thank you, ed.

Any road followed precisely to it's end leads precisely nowhere. Climb the mountain just a little bit to test that it's a mountain. From the top of the mountain, you cannot see the mountain.

"Great things are done when men and mountains meet;
This is not done by jostling in the street."

There's nowt much more charming than a gentle giant.

O ! It is excllent to have a giant's strength, but it is tyrannous to use it like a giant.

"If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants" "I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself in, now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."
Sir Isaac Newton (1642-1727.)

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.
