Just a quick one, this. If you have my email address, could you please email me? You see, I've had to rebuild this computer a couple of times, and one of the results is that I've lost all the email addresses I'd saved... Naturally, I never wrote most of them down anywhere. *slaps self*
(If you don't have my address but for some odd reason would like it, please let me know and we can start haggling over how to share such information without posting it here in the public domain.)

"You could write an entry, negotiate with a fellow researcher when it is valid and only for the negotiated time add
<!-- email dot address --> somewhere in the GuideML entry
Remove the address as soon as the other confirmed reading it.
This is not entirely 'safe' but it comes close.

That's a good idea; thanks. It would probably work quite well... We'd just have to work out the time difference in advance.

"Do not! (example) 'Check in next ten minutes < A2438679 >' should be good enough."

Ivan,
You could just open a separate yahoo or hotmail account that you only use on h2g2. Then when people contact you, and if you wish, you can pass on your real email account to them. That's what I do.

Traveller in Time a bit sorry while always trowing away the commercials on a new windows system
"What was the address again for a hotmail account?"

I think there's scope with my ISP to get another email account for no charge. I'll look into this... But I need my current XP problems to be fixed first. Every time I try to do something at the moment I crash the system completely. Naturally, the helpdesks are closed for Easter.
In the meantime, I'm backing-up email addresses the old-fashioned way, with pen and paper. Failsafe. .
When I get this new hootoo-only account, I'll post it here...
Ivan.

Caution has now been thrown in the general direction of the winds.
My new secondary and probably dodgy email account is 'pseudo_ivan at optusnet dot com dot au'. The usual commentary about the format applies.(Query: how sophisticated are these things that pick up email addresses from websites like this and make nuisances of themselves?)
I'll check this account whenever I'm logged on - but as for the actual logging on, I'm still at the mercy of XP, so service may be erratic for a while until I get to see the computer-doctor.
Ivan.

I'm delighted to supply it! It's a couple of posts up the list; failing that, it's in slightly more intelligible format on my userspace. *thinks - need to check that it is there, in case the whole episode was imaginary*
I should also mention that this laptop is still tired and emotional or something, and I can no longer access my home email from w*rk (access to all webmail blocked by management after a nasty virus incident the other day), so replies might be erratic...

Well, I just sent an email but I've no idea if it really went anywhere because my email crashed two seconds after I sent it... All very frustrating, having to reboot all the time.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
