Oh, Joy, I'm Home Again!

Having had trouble getting in to my Personal Space since re-registering for BBC Science and Nature in September, Jim Lynn (on his white charger) has come to my rescue and put me right. Thank you Jim Lynn.

I can happily dispense with Science and Nature if I have to, as along with many others I didn't like the new format which was forced upon us.

So long as I have h2g2 I am happy.

smiley - fishsmiley - musicalnote, Katkodl and everyone,

I am so pleased to be back and I have taken steps to make sure it doesn't get screwed up again. I still don't know if it was my fault or the website throwing a hissy fit!

I used to contribute regulary to the Nature Message Boards on the Beeb, and the Birds section in particular. Many friendships were formed there, both Virtual and RL.

The Beeb in its' smiley - bleep wisdom decided to combine Nature with Science, and also cut down the number of Message Boards, giving us a new format which hardly anyone liked. They also made us re-register and it wouldn't accept our old names in a lot of cases, which is where I think my problems started.

Whilst Science and Nature does overlap in many areas, mixing up messages on numerous subjects made a "dog's dinner" of it and many of us defected elsewhere, finding a lovely new "home" where we could continue those friendships.

The actual web pages are very interesting and informative but I shan't be going back on the message boards.

As some of you know my Badger/bird thread has taken up a fair bit of my time, and I am loving it. For my sins I now have another place on which to "witter" as Frenchbean would say.smiley - rofl I hope you will join me when it is up and running.

Oh, it IS nice to be back smiley - biggrin

smiley - cheers

Dear Websailor,

Well, somehow WE managed to keep in contact!!. I think that it is veryn difficult to have too many interests. I know that I have tried to join some politics section and of course one on mental health and have got myself into a dreadful mess.

Well I am pleased that you have found your way back thanks to your knight on a white charger!! I think you gave me a link to a another science website but it looked so complicated that I decided that I could not join it. Thank goodness because I would surely hae lost my way again.

Today a very large pigeon came to the bird table.!!
I see that there seems to be a varigated bird table with different hooks so I thikn, that I shall perhaps buy that and then all the various types of birds can come. I had so many types in Zim and we had some very rare birds as well - plus a tame crow who thought he was a dog - and barked!!

Happy bird-watching my dear

Hi, ZSF, Frenchbean and A1,

It is so nice to be welcomed back. I didn't realise I might be missed. smiley - smiley

Fb, you were right, I am a bit wrapped up in the badger thing, still am, but the early hours are beginning to tell on me!smiley - rofl

A1, I do hope you get lots of birds, they are so interesting and bring the garden alive. Somehow, it is what a garden is for, not just for something elegant to look at, but a living place.

Your Crow in Zim sounds fascinating - I thought starlings with their phone call sounds were clever!!

Hi dear Websailorsmiley - dragon

Cuthbert was a character!. K. had found him at his school in Plumbtree and brought him home. He had the run of the house and every morning, after the children had had breakfast would go onto the breakfast table and finish the toast and marmalade.
He never had his wings clipped but would roost outside in a tree. He used to stand at the top of the steps leading to the first terrace where the swimming pool was, and as people went down the steps would peck at their achilles tendonss!

One morning, when I went out to get the newspaper, there were two crows circling overhead, calling away. Well I thought they were calling for Cuthie, and they were. A few days later, Cuthie answered the call to the wild and off he flew.

I am certain however that he returned a year later to show off his "bride". We were sad to lose him but very pleased that he was able to be returned to his wild state and also to find a bride.

It was the barking that was the funniest thing. We had three Labradors, and he used to sit on their backs and "ride" them. Well, one day I was making the girls beds and all of a sudden I heard the sound of a very "sick" dog barking. I rushed to the window to see which dog it was, and found Cuthie, on the grass, letting out theis mournfaul bark. I really nearly died laughing. He obviously thought he was a dog.!

All good wishes and affectionate smiley - love
