NaJoPoMo 2011 Day 16 Shopping
hellboundforjoy Started conversation Nov 17, 2011
I took my mom shopping today. Not a pleasant way to spend the day in the best of times. She never finds what she wants so we always have to go out again. These aren't the best of times because she can no longer walk so I have to take her in the wheel chair. I don't have a lift in my car or anything, so with great difficulty she transfers from the wheelchair to the front seat of the car and back into the wheelchair. Then I fold the wheelchair and put it into the trunk. So far I have not put my back out doing this.
She is also mostly blind and suffers from mild dementia. But one of the things she wants to buy is a calendar that she can see. There were no calendars at Kmart so we went to Staples. They had plenty of calendars including a couple that she could see as well as she'll be able to see any calendar. But no, she has to keep looking. My brother will be in town next week and he'll take her out and perform some magic which will allow her to find a calendar she can see.
The pants (not underpants as some of you might be thinking. I'm not sure what you call them. Trousers maybe? Slacks? The ones we were looking at were knit) at Kmart were not to her liking either. We have to find some magic pants that will be right.
I guess I should be grateful that my mother is still around. In some ways I am, but I am also resentful. We never got along that well, though we get on better than she does with my dad. This journal only touches lightly on my ongoing frustration with my caregiving situation. I really want my life back.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
