August 1st 1999. As the temperature in the UK climbs from unbearable to headline making, my mum and I sat in the shade of a tree in St Ann's Wells Gardens in Hove, East Sussex and "people watched". A wonderful past-time which I can highly recommend. Harsh comments which we made to each other included "What has he got on", "Look at that one" and "Fat and Bald, now that is unfortunate". Our favourite, however, was the little girl who was being pushed along on a tricycle which had along handle attached to the back axle enabling her father to propel her forwards. The net result was essentially a "Child on a stick". I know there are many more people watchers out there who may have their own favourites. Take care now. DEE

I have a "child on a stick", if the stick breaks, will "the child" fall oon the floor and melt?

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
