Looks like I'm actually going to visit Peru next October. Always wanted to see Cuzco and Machu Piccu. I may actually activate my space at my ISP and put some piccies on it

Holy cow! Wow, you are one lucky kitty!
I'm so ! How exciting that has to be! Make sure you get some good pictures, and watch the high altitude.
And don't drink the local water, or get anything with ice in it!

Will be buying a digital camera before the trip
I've never been to that high an altitude before so I don't know how it will affect me and the holiday will involve quite a lot of walking so I may have to get more exercise before the trip (some would be a start )

Definitely! High altitude is hard to deal with! I spent every day at field camp wondering why I felt like I got hit by a truck every night, and the elevation change isn't as great as it is from Great Britain to the Andes!

Take it relatively easy for the first few days to adapt.
After a short while your red blood cell count increases to compensate for the low oxygen concentration, and then you can do more energetic things without getting lightheaded (). You'll be able to tell when this is because exercise will get easier...
Also, there may be something you could take if you got altitude sickness (ie the relatively mild kind of altitude sickness), but I honestly don't know about that sort of stuff at the moment.

Thanks for the tips Edward and Thursday
Altitude sickness sounds like a great excuse for what is presumably a legal drug in Peru

Who are you going with?
(Asda have some good offers on digital cameras atm, I know because I sorted my parents this morning) Fuji - 2/3rds off.
Might be even cheaper in the New Year tho'
So, do you want some company?

At the moment only other person going is my mother
Hows that for un
But we are hoping to get my brother, and possibly sis, bro-in-law and nephew to go too
Can't recall the name of the tour company, they were pricey but we get to stay near Machu Piccu overnight

Ooh a family vacation. You have a much more adventurous family than I if you can get all those people to go with you.
