And apparently voters turned out in record numbers...I was hoping that it was i protest...unfortunately....

yes, I kept thinking high voter registration was a good sign
wrong yet again
you're on early, have the clocks changed in Australia too?

It was so close--Kerry was leading in the OH exit polls for a while...
Well, the real winners here are the Fundies. They just proved that their god can elect a president who, on anything but religious issues, couldn't have won.

Oh yeah--different hemispheres.

But why bother with summer time in Australia--isn't it close enough to the equator that the day length changes aren't so extreme as in the US/UK/Canada?

plenty of room on the couch for all miseryguts here
the news here was talking about a landslide but winning by 3.5 million votes isn't really a landslide in a country the size of the US, 51% to 48%
I think I'll vote Plaid Cymru next election, I'd rather learn Welsh than follow Bush and Blair

oh--I ought to get back to my homework now, in any case. Have a nice summer. Oddly, we're still having summer here, although we're halfway into Fall/Autumn.

I agree, and someone needs to tell Bush that--in his victory speech he talked like it was one of the biggest wins ever.

Who/what is Plaid Cymru? Sorry, I don't follow UK politics that closely.

Plaid Cymru are Welsh nationalists
\I'm not a big fan of nationalism but on most things they are quite left-wing and quite unelectable

The more I see of the world the less I like of it...
...remind that that I have to start a group to take over the world...

I just don't be-flipping-lieve it! How is this possibl? It's like 1984 when Reagan was re-elected, only worse. I can't imagine the skiting from the right-wing websites...

Al Zarqawi: the unusual suspect
Mysterious Jordanian celebrity executioner Abu
Musab Al Zarqawi is a huge hit with lovers of
Hardline Honeyz. With a $25m price tag on his
head, al Zarqawi shot to fame as the star of
"Sheik Abu Musab Al Zarqawi slaughters an
American infidel with his own hands", a video
showing the death of Iraq hostage Nicholas Berg.
But is Al Zarqawi for real?
A Jordanian of that name did fight in Afganistan
in the 80s and in Kurdish Iraq in the 90s,
with a group called Ansar al-Islam, but no more
was heard of him until Colin Powell's famous
warmongering speech to the UN named him as the
link between Saddam and Osama. Since then Al
Zarqawi has become a mythic bogeyman blamed for
almost every real or imagined terrorist threat.
*Suddenly he was al-Qaeda's bioterrorism expert
and head of terror camps in Saddam-era Iraq; he'd
never previously been linked to either.
* US intelligence experts say Berg's executioner
clearly didn't have a Jordanian accent.
* Iraqi insurgents claimed Al Zarqawi was dead,
and all new captured operatives from Ansar
al-Islam say they've never laid eyes on him.
* CIA said he only had one leg after an operation
in Baghdad, but since the executioner in the
video clearly had two they now say, er, he has
two after all.
So... Al Zarqawi: he's the new Keyser Sose.

"what did the rest of the world do to deserve this?"
You didn't start a war between us and the USSR when you had a chance.
