Stormy weather
Artisan Started conversation Jan 11, 2005
Our weather in(Scotland)is generally bad at the best of times and we're sort of used to it by now.Due to the recent world events with the Tsunami and other weather related disasters,I know our climate and inclement weather doesn't really come close to what these other countries are experiencing. So what I'm trying to say is I'm not complaining, but on the other hand the weather we are being subject to at present has to rate as the worst for many a year, so I thought it was worth a mention to see if any of you want to share how things are where you are! Rain is part of our culture here in Glasgowso that's not the issue. It's the hurricane force gales behind it that's unusual, and the fact that these conditions do not seem to be easing up any.I generally just accept what weather we get,and by no means am I genned up on it enough to explain how bad it is right now,but I'm almost certain we are experiencing the tail-end of the storms the rest of the world are having!
When I was younger, I believed that when they sent rockets into space they damaged the atmosphere and made little holes in the protective layer which is up there, and consequently allowed the bad weather throughor was that just something my mother told me? maybe How is the weather where you are..?

Hiya G
Its bloomin windy here too. Not as bad as you are experiencing up there though I saw the forecast for the whole of Britain earlier. 100mph winds is a bit much! Is it that bad yet?
For my area its expected to reach 80mph at its peak. The last time we had winds of that strength, it took out half the trees in Kent and alot round here.
Batten down the hatches!!

Crikey Jen I haven't really any idea of the windspeed right now but it's effects are quite frightening!
I'm actually fearful of my windows blowing in(or at least that's how it sounds)at the moment.I'm situated in a high area and on a top flat so maybe it just seems worse. All I know is it doesn't seem to be getting any better
I can see power-cuts on the horizon. Now where did I put those candles I got at Christmas....
Jeez it's got ten times worse since the time it's taken to post this Jen.Think I'll be staying indoors for a while

to say, our weather is sunny and mild, no wind worth mentioning since Saturday, and even then, the wind we had here was harmless compared to the gales you had and still have
Btw, do you think I should rather type and drink ? ( Because that's what I'm doing right now )

Its not sounding good dear. And of course high winds nearly always mean power cuts Damn nuisance trying to boil a kettle over a candle!
Its probably best you don't go out. It can be more dangerous outside, with flying fences, trees etc.

Evening all,
Bit dark to see, but Surrey is just damp and fairly blowy - nothing like what you're getting, Arty. We did have a bad time on Saturday - lost a few items from the garden - you know the stuff, inflatable Homer Simpson, garden gnomes, cat, children, etc. The bad weather has brought all the foxes out - foraging in the upturned bins.
Take it easy up there,
Icy
I don't think we're in Glasgow anymore Toto!
Artisan Posted Jan 11, 2005
Did I tell you my dogs name was Toto?
A strange coincidence indeed!
Lucky you B'el,can I come over there for a while then? In fact,if things get any worse in 10 minutes time you may just see me hurtling past your window with a keyboard in my hands! So just go and get the biggest net you can find QUICKLY,please
Drinking and typing is not the same as typing and drinking. Is it?
I don't think we're in Glasgow anymore Toto!
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Jan 11, 2005
A net, OMG, I haven't got any But I'll bravely hang out of my window and try to grab you when passing, is that ok ? - just don't blame me if I only get hold of your keyboard
I think typing and drinking is completely different from drinking and typing

Ach I've seen bad weather Jen,we all have. But with the exception of maybe one day, this has been going on for what seems like weeks!
Kinda dampens your spirits if you know what I mean(no pun intended)! Gosh my kettles plastic, so that's my chance for a coffee later snookered.

Artisan Posted Jan 11, 2005
Hi Icy,sorry to hear about your loss of those items. Can you get another Homer?
You never know it may happen where you are.If I were you I'd be prepared. If I'd known sooner I would have bought some sandbags from B&Q.
I didn't know you were in Surrey!
Your not a painter by any chance

aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Jan 11, 2005
What would you want the sandbags for, I wonder - to smash your windows before the storm can do it ?
Or do you think you and your dog are safe behind a sandbag ?
Btw, I keep my fingers crossed that nothing bad happens

Artisan Posted Jan 11, 2005
The sandbags would be used in an effort to stay on terra-firma B'eleverything will be okay. And besides..I've always wanted to fly

Aw yeah I just love a curry meself, but you know the stuff they serve up to us is just tailored to suit our palate? Those guys wouldn't dream of eating that themselves.I still love it nonetheless.I've a recipe for curry soup somewhere.I must post it someday.

I've often dreamt I could fly when I was a child
Never dream that now anymore, shows me that I'm getting old
You don't need a sandbag to stay on the earth, you could tie yourself to the central heating
The way you have described the storm and it's effect on your windows is worrying, I really hope you'll be fine

If you post your curry soup, I'll dig out my curried eggs recipe. Believe me, it's worth trying.
I did an evening course in Indian cookery a few years ago - great fun, especially the breads.

I've once had a curry in an Indian restaurant in London - after two bites, my mouth was numb and the taste buds were killed, my eyes and nose were competing which could run faster, and that was it - I've never been to an Indian restaurant again

I'll survive B'el.I know it's"boring"to talk about the weather but this is exceptional or I wouldn't have mentioned it otherwise.I should really think myself lucky.Theres people living on the streets.God help them!

Icy North Posted Jan 11, 2005
Such a shame, not all curries are hot! If you pluck up courage to go again, go for a Lamb Pasanda or something equally mild.
I'm fortunately blessed with an asbestos inner lining.
Favourite Indian restaurants, anyone? I'll vote for the Rajpoot in Bath, Somerset.
Cheers, Icy.

Excellent.Well, you would love this as it's an authentic recipe. You can also boil it down to a thicker consistency so as it's no longer soup, and it turns out just like you buy at your Indian restuarant!I'm a dab hand at pakora, but when I make it I do it by eye(if you know what I mean)so can't share it with you unfortunately.
