I'm an American, don't shoot!
Sandwich Maker Started conversation Jul 11, 1999
I have just been reading some of the pages in the guide and I must say that it has occurred to me that there is a decidely anti-American sentiment out there. At first I thought it was just fun and games and even found some of it amusing. I figured along the way I would find this gentle ribbing of other nations as well. So far I have not found that to be true. I will continue to look, but I must say that it is getting harder and harder to laugh off these things. I am starting to regret joining this thing. But maybe I am just tired. Oh well. "Tomorrow is another day" --GWTW

Yes, they're cruel, they're mean, some of them are downright horrible, but you know what, all you have to do is remember our girl's whooped 'em in the World cup. Well, that and that there are lots of nice Brits out there, too, and there is a small but very patriotic group who stand up for the U.S.A. if it means a virtual broken nose.. Don't worry about it, it'll become so familiar in a few weeks that you'll forget about it . Until then, your fish will protect you, I promise. They're genetically programmed to defend thier owners and promote peace among the english-speaking nations.
I forgot to say hi.
Hi.

Hi Sandwich Maker! Just wanted to let you know there are other Yanks out there trying to protect the good name of the U.S. Fenchurch, Kat, and myself, to mention a few. And quite a few non-Yanks that don't think America is hell. Don't give up on this place too soon!

Thanks for the support everyone. It is good to know I am not the only one. As for the fish in my journal, fish keep me centered. It's a Zen thing.......trust me. Anyway, I have been away for the evening and that is why it took me so long to respond but I wanted you to know that am happy knowing other Yanks out there. It wasn't anyone that I have actually come in contact with that I found mean but rather because I decided to go through the pages in the guide and I found many of the ones I read had some kind of anti American statement in it and I know this thing is not necessarily going to be used but if hostile aliens ever actual read it they would definitely take out America first because they would figure we were useless. But I am enjoying myself immensely and everyone seems very friendly. So thanks again!!!!!!!! YAY AMERICA!!!!!

As a Brit who takes the michael out of you lot - I promise it is meant in good humour, sorry that should be humor! And we are not just like this with the USA - you should read what we have said about the Australians!

And what the Aussies say about Tasmania and all the rest, and what I as a San Diegan say about West Texans and all the rest
By the way, Ginger, I saw the rounders pics, it looks like you had such a good time, which made me terribly jealous

As a Brit (out here in euro-land) I reckon we are more liable to take the mickey out of ourselves than others (note our national sports teams for example).
I would also like to apologise for any jingoists who only upset, we've all got some and I know I should control my own tongue at times - what do you mean most of the time!
By the way to see what some of the good citizens of the US think of the english watch Jay Leno and note his long running dental hygiene joke.

I remembered you wanted one, but I got to them about a week later and couldn't find where you put how you wanted it to look What did you want? And I promised myself as soon as I have a vacation I'm going over there, I don't care how much I'll owe the credit card people .
And I'm American and proud, just to stay on topic

I'm still an American and proud........NO REALLY, if you don't believe me check out my arguing on the Americans need to import a sense of humour thread. As for credit cards, Fenny, be very, VERY careful. Trust me. As someone who used to use them often and got into mucho debt it is not a fun place to be. Luckily I met my honey and he helped me out and now I am under control (with much conseling ) but it is a scary thing to have to deal with (ok I am putting away the soapbox)
As for the rest of y'all, thank you and please tell me more about Britain as I am really hoping to come over there sometime in the not too distant future. Never been but have heard terrific things about it.......

The fish I wanted was purple with long red hair but I think someone has already bagsied that so how about a red fish with long purple hair and I'll tell everyone it's the negative?
What do you want to know about Britain? Give us some idea of the kind of stuff you want to read about.

No not really. I was just hoping for hearing how great it was and a couple of those "don't miss this" type things. I don't know much about England......
