The first day of the last year of the twentieth century, C.E., has dawned and been greeted by an assembled throng of people who haven't had enough sleep, and many of whom have been drinking to excess. A harbinger for the year? Possibly...
I made what turned out to be a far-sighted decision yesterday, last year, that drinking vodka would be infinitely easier to cope with today than my usual practice of drinking beer. I only got through about half a bottle of vodka - along with a few beers and sundry other drinks (who was that idiot who brought the cocktail shaker...?) - and my head thanks me for it. Unfortunately, my head wasn't in on proceedings as my body decided to party on until four in the morning before collapsing like a black hole, and I have awoken uncharacteristically early with a headache, anyway.
The day itself has been beautiful - if slightly unseasonably cool - with only a hint of cloud, but as I have been incapacitated by leftover drunkenness and lack of sleep, I have been unable to take advantage. The first day of the year, as a result, has been spent taking care of business doing things like wash dishes and launder clothes. Going through the motions feels so nice when you're not in any mood to do anything, and it makes you feel virtuous, what's more!
The Y2K thing passed without incident except (possibly) for some minor problems acessing h2g2, and we've been watching the so-called "millenial" celebrations around the world since we got up. If "taking care of business" is the theme for the year, it's going to be a busy year.
Happy new year everyone!

The end of the Millenium is still 364 days away, Shazz, and there's an Olympics on over the hill before that...!
I had a feeling that this would be you. I'm afraid I haven't been able to get ICQ connected at work, and if the only place I can use it is here, then I'm better off with hotmail, I suspect. I did try to connect to ICQ at work, and I think my attempt to download it may have had quite a lot to do with why the internet wasn't functioning at work for the last few days before Christmas...
I do check my hotmail account every day, usually about twice, but if you have a better suggestion, I'm all eyes...!

OK Shazz, the "hottest site on the internet" sounds too good to refuse *bending in pain from the ferocious twisting of the arm being administered by the ever-loving chief...*.
My reasons for anonymity (OK well, A reason for anonymity) is discussed in the Email I sent you which lists my addresses. I am a modest man *noting the self-evident sophistry of this statement with some alarm...*
I would NEVER call you dense...!
