Quite amazing really, Ian Jones only came on ten minutes into the second half. As soon as he came on Biaritz scored, but he made it up by going over for a try of his own near the end. All in all not a bad debut.

what more did you expect?
he did play for north harbour here, and as such is considered a master of his craft

I've just seen the score in the spanish match, Gloucester beat Spain 42 - 19. I don't know if Ian scored or Simon Mannix, or the two Islanders (Terry Fanolua and his cousin Junior Paramore). They were all born in Gloucester, honest gov.
So why are you incoherent?

simon mannix used to be one of my fav almost all blacks, many years ago - he used to play for wellington, a union that has just managed to stay in the first division for years and finally managed to be set alight this year (probably by the prospect of having a new home ground next season)
i was incoherent because it was very early in the morning, the day (well techincally two days) after the election, and i wasn't making much sense
and i was suffering a political hangover too

What do you mean almost All Black - he played for you a couple of times (not very important matches - but then our Australian Richards Tombs also doesn't have many caps, in fact most of the Gloucester side are up and coming Internationals or internationals who didn't quite make it). Someone did say he made it to the All Blacks because Wellington had a strong side at the time. Simon's making a few bad decisions and his kicking has gone off - also Gloucester have just drafted Llanelli and Wales flyhalf (when jenkins is ill) Byron Haydn to cover for him, so he may see a little second team rugby soon.
The exception to the above being Ian Jones. He's having an incredible start to his Gloucester career. He has to work a bit harder round the pitch - as 'The Citizen' said he was all over the pitch against spain and he starved them of ball in the lineouts.

almost all black because he spent the whole time basically replacing someone else, or totally without any certainty that he would be there for the long term, which he wasn't
jones is a great player - i should imagine he would make quite a dent over there - he always dragged harbour up to another level, and he will be sadly missed in our lineout - but i'm glad he's doing some good over there
he can get a bit lazy though, so watch whether he slows down a bit after the novelty has worn off

He won't have chance to be lazy, like over there the crowd are very knowledgeable (and vocal). If they see anyone not playing to their full potential, they tend to let their feeling be heard.
But, so far so good. Roll on the Bath match. It's the other west country derby this week Gloucester v Bristol, sort of a mild version of the Bath match.
