h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

This moment's flight of fancy is sneaking into countries in strife and writing exposés of hitherto unknown human rights violations in the optimistic intention that people'll actually be nice to each other. I can quite imagine myself sneaking over the border of countries by cover of night with a laptop and a satellite phone, a la press crews in Afghanistan in the 1980s (I used to do web design for a self-employed woman who did this, and she has such interesting stories).

I wonder how long this'll laugh and how much this has to do with my total disillusionment with humanity in general (but my sudden presence of gritty determination and the will to actually do something).

I wonder, in fact, how long it'll be before I just resign myself to life once more. *yawns and runs to a seminar*

I once read a book by a man who did that.... In Soviet-controlled Afghanistan. Or rather, Soviet-want-to-control Afghanistan... What are you doing?

.. that's what this woman did, as part of a film crew. May even have been the same group of people.. as far as I know, it's something that not many people did.. (at least, one would hope).

Well, both. Mostly I was thinking in general though. Beyond moving and passing out after walking up a hill......

I didn't pass out, I just rested.

Specifically at the moment, I'm listening to the Toccata from Widor's Organ Symphony No. 5 on Sennheiser HD500 headphones, lamenting the fact that I've finished my mug of tea, and typing. I've just come back from a talk/seminar on stem cell research / in-vitro fertilisation ethics (a local baha'i community event), at which I didn't deign to join in, opting rather to sit and listen and try to look like I understood.

In general, I'm waiting for my laptop to be sent back to me (hopefully working, this time.. this is the fourth time it's been sent back in almost 2 months, and I haven't had access to it for that long), and rejoicing at the fact that since I'm staying at my parents house for christmas, I have access to the backup of all of my music which I stashed with them (and haven't had access to due to my broken laptop) for the last two months.
