My boss has told us that we'll all have to apply for our jobs as we are undergoing a restructure. I've decided that I'm not going to apply so I'm looking around for redeployment or a new job.
Any suggestions?

Do you work with me? I'm in almost exactly the same situation.
I strongly suggest you apply, as it may be the best opportunity you get in the current climate. If you're not successful, at least they'll give you some good feedback as to why. Treat it as interview practice if nothing else, and even if they offer you the job, you don't need to accept if you really don't want to.
Whatever you do, start scouring the job sites now. Is your CV up to date?

I've been looking for work since November, and only found one job in that time to apply for Depends what line of work it is though, all the jobs I see advertised again and again in this area are in the same kinds of areas, home helps, nursing home workers etc

Be positive: at least you can apply for your own job. If my boss decides to restructure, it means he'll sack me, with no chance of apllying for a job there again.
I know, it's not quite the same, and less important for me than it is for you to keep your jobs, but still.

In the current climate, unless the redunancy package on offer is *really* good, it's probably best to apply, though having recently gone through a restructuring I know it's not a fun process.
Whatever you decide to do, !

Noooooh! This isn't a thread.
I want proper Hootoo suggestions.
I was expecting:
Chat Show Host
Stand In for Batman (or other super hero)
I'm not unhappy. I hate my current job and so long as I play my cards right I'll be much happier in a couple of months time.
I hope the rest of you folks at threat of redundancy or looking for work are getting sorted properly. There's always offering your body for medical research - so long as they don't give you stuff that makes you swell up to twice your normal size and change species.

In my current experience, if you'd like a job which involves heavy lifting, the wearing of hard hats and extreme attention to detail in a hostile environment, become a librarian!
Or more seriously, you could become Britain's Defender of Carps. A much needed position, it would seem...

Ooh! Librarian sounds exciting!
Do I get to say "Shhhhh!" a lot?
Do I get to keep the fines?
Defender of Carps (or Doc for short - nothing to do with Cod)
Wading up to my waist in cold water trying to catch pointy hooks on the ends of bits of string.
Hmmm. Sounds tempting.

Update 14 August 2009 1.00pm
*dong!*
I have applied for a secondment as a Complaints Manager.
I'm not sure how much I can complain but I'll give it a go.
"There's too much light in here! Pull the blind!"
"You don't call that a cup of tea, do you?
"Oi, stop ignoring me!"
Just practising.

Complaints Manager sounds like a truly fascinating job! Good luck!
As a librarian, you wouldn't get to keep the fines, I'm afraid, but the shhhhhh is an important part of the job.

Do you ever watch "My Name is Earl?"
A really good, subtle but in your face comedy.
I feel like his younger, dumber brother at the thought of being able to say "Shhhh" to people all day.
The temptation is almost too much!
