Much ado about something

'Solid Air' by John Martyn, written after the death of Nick Drake.
'You've been getting to deep, you've been living on solid air...'
'Driven to tears' by Sting about starvation.
He sang it at Live-aid and IMO it was the most appropriate song of the whole memorable day.
'How can you say that your not responsible?'
'What does it have to do with me?'
'What is my reaction, what should it be?'
'Confronted by this latest atrocity '
'Driven to tears'
'Driven to tears'
'Hide my face in my hands, shame wells in my throat'
'My comfortable existence is reduced to a shallow meaningless party'
'Seems that when some innocent die all we can offer them is a page in some magazine'
'Too many cameras and not enough food 'cause this is what we've seen'
'Driven to tears'
'Driven to tears'
'Protest is futile, nothing seems to get through'
'What's to become of our world, who knows what to do ?'
'Driven to tears'
'Driven to tears'
Absolutely Mr. Sting...too many cameras and not enough food...
TM.
P.S.I may write an entry about Nick Drake in a couple of weeks. W*** comes first ATM.

Sting seems to have written a few things inspired by world events.
They Dance Alone, inspired by the dissapeared of Chile and the people who were left behind.

Absolutely ! But can you imagine ? Saturday afternoon 1986(I think), around 17:00 hrs : Sting solo with a Strat at Live Aid singing 'How can you say that you're not responsible' ? I bet Bob Geldof felt the urge to kiss him

I know I'm late to this party, but how about "Bastille Day" by Rush.
Also the last song on side two of their Signals album was about the launch of the Space Shuttle.

most of el vez's songs have specific american-latino references, and some are about quite specific things ("arm of obregon" and "frieda's song" are the 2 that come to mind).
also, "i must not think bad thoughts" by x is about the rapid commercialization of the american punk scene (and diy music in general) in the '80's, and i'm pretty sure "mac the knife" is based on jack the ripper.
