Thanksgiving Holiday
Two Bit Trigger Pumping Moron Started conversation Nov 28, 2001
My wife and I just returned from a holiday visiting her family in Ohio.
We arrived on Wednesday and went to the Star Wars: The Magic of Myth* exhibit. It's an exhibit on tour from the Smithsonian
National Air And Space Museum* at the Toledo Museum of Art*. It was pretty cool. It had a lot of props from the movie there. It amazes me how cheesy the props look in real life, but in the movies they're amazingly cool. In one room, I was looking at young Anikan's costume. His helmet was a cheap looking plastic thing, but in the movie poster that was there with it, it looked great.
We enjoyed the holiday with the in-laws. We even got in a few board games. I love board games.
On the day after Thanksgiving, we did go do the mandatory day after Thanksgiving shopping. We didn't get up early enough for the really good deals.
We live within a mile or two of US Highway 23, as does my wife's family. It's just that our homes are 800 miles apart. I thought it might be nice to take the scenic route back. It was a nice trip through the Apaplchan Mountains. I like travelling and seeing new places. There's something about little towns nestled in valley's that fascinates me. I think its fun to stop at little tourist spots along the way.
One of our stops was the Biltmore Estate*. It's a huge private home that you can tour. The tour was nice, if a bit overpriced. I didn't think the overall tour was worth it. General admission was $34 a head. The behind-the-scenes tour for $11 was a really cool look at Victorian life. If you go, definitely take it.
From there we continued on south to Georgia. We stopped at Black Rock Mountain State Park*. It had a majestic view, but the ranger was closing up as we pulled in. We snapped a few pictures before coming on home.
It was a nice trip. Since I was raised by my father away from any extended family, I particularly enjoy family holidays with an extended family.
