you mean something like "where are you trying to go to?" as opposed to "where is it you're trying to go?" ?
Just grammar I guess - I thin, the second one reads a little better, and I'd use it if I was writing, but probably the first if I was talking.
I just don't like ending sentences with things like 'to' or 'with' or other such prepositions - like I don't like to start sentences with But or And when I'm writing essays.

Writing essays is one thing, and starting sentences with 'but' or 'and' doesn't work in formal writing, I agree, but explain what's wrong with a split infinitive.
