Holy Steroids, Batman!!!

A quick update to explain my absence for the past couple of days:

I went to my orthopaedic doctor for my follow-up appointment (finally!) We spent a few minutes chatting about what kind of idiots work for my insurance co., and Dr. P. informed me that he'd appealed their decision against the Syn-Visc shots. I didn't even know about his appeal, since the only thing I'd gotten from said idiotic insurance company was the initial 'denial of procedure' letter, stating that I had to try cortisone shots first.smiley - grr

Dr. P. and I discussed the cortisone, and we decided that we'd try it once or twice - which should be enough to satisfy the insurance company. Then, the doctor turns around and starts rummaging through the cabinets, and turns around with a syringe in his hand. I squeaked, 'You mean we're going to do that now????'smiley - yikes!!! This reaction made my hubby laugh, until I practically squeezed his hand off while the injection went in!

Of course, Dave and I had much to do after my appointment: trips to Home Depot, the liquor store, the gas station, and food shopping. The anisthetic that went in with the shot started to wear off while we were at the grocery store, and I was in a fair amount of pain by the time we got home. I spent the rest of the night moaning & smiley - groaning.

Yesterday the pain wasn't so bad, but I had a hard time bending the knee, as it felt like everything in there was out of place. (Imagine how your elbow, for example, feels when it needs to crack.) I had a hard time even walking around the house.smiley - sadface

So far this morning, the knee feels pretty good. By that, I mean that it doesn't feel any worse than it did before the shot. I guess that the steroid is kicking-in. I hope that I get a little more relief as the days go by. After all, this procedure should (ideally) only give me 3-4 months of relief. I guess that Dr. P. is counting on three months, as I have another shot scheduled for September.smiley - rolleyes

Now, if only someone could do something about the peri-menopause!smiley - winkeye
