Inanna has a theory - it could be bunnies. Started conversation Feb 20, 2002
I got a phone call at work this morning from my mother. My last remaining grandparent, my paternal grandfather, died in his sleep last night.
It's not entirely unexpected: he was 96, and generally not able to take care of himself, but stubbornly resisting nursing home care. Until just before Christmas, his catheter blocked again, and his home carers refused to take the job back on, so he couldn't be sent home.. so he was shipped off to a 'rehabilitation hospital' and then, finally, to a nursing home just last week.
My real sorrow is that I didn't get to see him since he went into the hospital. Nor did I write to thank him for his christmas gift - it's been on my 'to do' list for ages. And now can never be done.
I'm really going to miss him. He was cantankerous, stubborn, argumentative, but I loved him.

I've lost half of my grandparents, and both parents... If you need to talk, I'm a good listener... Though I know you don't know me

Dear Amy
Thank you so so much for your offer.
I'm sober-er now, which helps, but still hurting. And I don't suppose that'll go away any time soon.
I can't imagine losing my parents.. I think that's one of the scary things about my grandad dying: he was the last of my grandparents. So now it's just my parents and then me.
Anyway, thank you again. Knowing you're here means a lot. Even if I don't know you!

Sorry I wasn't here earlier.
I bet your grandfather knew how much you loved him. You're pretty good at telling people that, you know!
I'm so sorry that you hurt so much. Darnit, why haven't you moved to Oz yet, so I could give you a real proper ?

Thank you all for the love and s and support.
I'm off down to London tomorrow night to do the Radio thing (see other journal entry for info), then to my parents' house. The funeral's on Wednesday, and I won't be back til the weekend.
So if I'm not around much, that's why.
