That's the problem. I'm never happy with the things I write. smiley - sadface

But that's the good thing about hootoo. If you post something you're not sure about and people say smiley - applause it gives you the self-belief to go on. If they say smiley - yuk you know you've got to rethink!

And you're off to France soon, mvp? Have a wonderful trip. The mantis will decide.

What??? The mantis will decide what??? I don't know, I just prophecied a paragraph (yours) involving a mantis.

hmm I think it depends on who says yuk. smiley - yuk. And why. smiley - huh ... I'm referring to post 22 here. smiley - rofl. It's a big question. I might go on about it, sometime later.

Further thoughts on the Big Question.

I think, if I was keen to put work, say writing, out there, I would ensure that I had a few people in my life whose opinion really matters. I don't think I would trust everyone. Is that mean?

Ideally these trusted ones would be already in the writing world, so they would know the terrain. They wouldn't be afraid to offer honest critique.

I think it's great on hootoo, in the AWW, there was always a pretty good level of quality critique, and trust, I seem to remember.

Mind you, I remember deleting a piece just because someone was scathing about it, but that's just me. smiley - rofl.

It's not that I wanted everyone to lerv my work, it's just that I got caught in the glare and started to dream about x rays and dancing skeletons wearing pink rabbit ears who were jeering at me in funny languages.

smiley - redwine

I know performers who have started to rely too much on what the audience thinks. They were looking for love from the audience, and that can get dangerous, because an audience can raise you up and throw you down all in the space of one performance.

I don't know if its the same in the writing world. It would be so great to delight people through writing. I think I would walk barefoot through the fire if I could bring delight.

End of very interesting thoughts on the Big Question.

If you want to put your writing out there, you could start with your trusted spiral smiley - galaxy.

I don't know about 'x rays and dancing skeletons wearing pink rabbit ears who were jeering at me in funny languages' smiley - yikes. But I have known some critics who can be really hard on the poor writer.

And I've written pieces that have gone really wrong and taken them off hootoo because people said smiley - yuk

The mantis worries me a bit. We get praying mantises in the garden of our house in France and I think they're interesting. But a bit smiley - alienfrown

Ah yes! the trusted spiral. smiley - galaxy. I forgot about that. smiley - rofl.

Really? You also have taken pieces off hootoo because people said yuk? smiley - yuk. That makes me feel much better. smiley - rofl. Not that you had to withdraw the piece, not at all, in fact that makes me sad...

....but because you know what you're talking about and you are a big part of the AWW. I think the critique you offer people there is quality. I trust you with the spooked yet sparkling spirals of my tender memory.

In fact, I just saw a piece of yours over there, so must go read. After all this talk, I slunk into the AWW to see if I was any braver, which I'm not, smiley - rofl, but saw your piece so that was good.

Yes, and bon voyage from me also, dear poetlady. Give my love to the mantises, especially the green one that looks at you sideways for hours on end, without moving. heheh.

I , well, have the writers block, more strictly posters block. I have tried to write a post for an Ask thread for three days now.

I have tried writing live 'as post to a converation' which I prefer. If i want to save and think I save my posts then come back to write live again
Tried word processing
Tried writing, you know, with pen and paper
Tried writing an email, which wouldn't then be a post, a potential post,

and flumph, still stuck. Had a hissy fits along the way, deleting and recycling rather than saving. Now suffering post recycle remorse

Is this what is like for you guys? If it is well hats off to you, don't know how you do it

smiley - kiss and smiley - hug

I love your expression, Peanut. You communicate so much, you really do, and you're a sweetie smiley - kiss

smiley - kiss I love the hissy fit and the post recycle remorse.

It's tough, postings and words and it all. I find it tough sometimes, I break out in headaches and itchy skin.

I was reading a wonderful book today, a graphic novel by a favourite artist of mine, and there's a whole section of it that's just drawings, no words. I love that. No idea what it's about, that's what I love the most. smiley - rofl.

I love peculiar communication, where words turn somersaults and juggle with roses and cupcakes in the middle of a paragraph. smiley - rosesmiley - cupcake

And there are always smiles. A stranger smiled at me today. I could give it all up for smiles.

And now, after supper, I must finally make it over to the AWW, to the Parthenon in Nashville to be precise, smiley - rofl, to see what mvp has to say about it all.

you are very lovely Cactuscafe smiley - hug

the moment for posting has now past, so over it now, not even mulling, not even a little bit smiley - whistle

I am not writing one, but re-investigating a story that intrigued me. The one of the unknown woman whose body was found after the Lynmouth flood disaster in 1952. I have briefly googled this morning and I think her story may still be untold as in no one has solved the mystery of the unknown woman

Which is fertile ground for a story and adding this into the mix

http://www.bbc.co.uk/devon/news_features/2002/lynmouth_flood.shtml

and I am envisioning some kind of reconstruction drama docmentary thingy smiley - bigeyes

mmm, no, now I am actually thinking about a series I watched but can't remember the name of, but forensic archeolgists meets cold case, that type of thing...

They could be interested, whats the harm in asking?
