A great and marvelous invention, the roots are steeped in history, usually as a form of tribal rites of passage.
The Maoris, for example, rate a persons manhood by the size of tattoo he can endure in one sitting.
But this is no longer the case, tattoos are becomming more and more popular as a form of body art and self expression. There are those out there who don't apreciate the intimacy and personal meaning behind a tattoo. These are the ones who go out on a saturday and get an off the shelf tattoo of their local football team, only to regret it a year later when they don't like the said team anymore.
If anyone out there is thinking of getting a tattoo then beware, if you get one you may become hopelessly hooked and get more and more. But all of you remember that a tattoo should be something that you really want, not just something that you like the look of, although you are often best off designing it yourself.
If I have any more comments regarding this I will be sure to post them.

I got a tattoo when I was 18. My mum bought it for me as my birthday present. I had wanted a tat since I was 14 and started hanging around with bikers and metal fans. My mum said I should wait until I was 18. It was good psychology really as she never said no outright. She thought I would change my mind after a few years. But she was wrong. All it meant was that I had time to grow out of the fad and think seriously about the design I wanted.I'm greatful for that as seven years later I don't regret having it done, I still enjoy showing it off and I would still love to get another one.
I saw a program a few weeks ago about a girl who wanted a tattoo. Her mum said that "the wrong kind of girl gets a totto" and that she'd never get a decent job. I'd have loved to have been in the audience. I have a degree, I am an electronic engineer and I'm currently working for my doctorate. I also have my nose pierced and I've never found that or my tatto to be a hinderence to me. I am a home owner with a child of my own and in a lond term relationship. So, I'm the wrong kindof girl am I?
