Dark Tower ends

We ended the Dark Tower module tonight. I didn't think that was how it was going to end, but hey, that's how it worked. The druid found and picked up the stone of neutrality which destroyed the heart of law and the soul of chaos. It left the cleric with the heart of law with an i.q. of 70 when it destroyed the heart. It similarly left the druid with little intelligence. After that, the party really didn't want to die off so they decided to go back to the Duke and explain what happened so a stronger party could go in and finish off the rest of the baddies. The party went their seperate ways to retire off the huge amount of money we found.

Next week we will talk about what we want to run, and in which edition. We are unsure we want to convert to third. We will have to take a close look at it.

I can't believe they made a THIRD edition. I mean, it was needed, as the second was still extremely flawed in parts, but...geez. Can you get rulebooks on CD-ROM now? I'm totally out of touch, as you might guess.

A core rule book was made on cd for second edition a couple of years ago. There hasn't been one for third yet, just the usual books, the DMG and Players. A new Monster Manual has been produced as well as the first 3rd ed. module, The Sunless Citidel.

Wizards, who bought out TSR, decided to make the game more ... conventional i guess. Or at least closer to their other games. I have yet to play test the edition, and i haven't read the players cover to cover, but i can see problems already.

It's ALWAYS had problems. The only way to make it not have problems would be to scrap the whole thing and start over with a totally different system, which of course would have traditionalists, along with people who have invested hours and hours and hours into their characters from the current edition(s), up in arms.

On another front, has the third edition finally gone to the much more sensible method of spell points yet?

I haven't read much on spell casting yet as i don't like playing mages and clerics. I do know that some spells have changed, rather notably curing.

I guess one of the larger changes is the "feat" system. The game still has skills and abilities, but the feat thingies have taken over a bit there. Feats are things like knowing how to use some weapons and armor, how to change the effect of spells, the theif skills, etc...

I don't think 3rd has changed over to spell points. The game was never set up to cast spells from points, and i don't remember 3rd changing that. I keep my player's at my DM's house. I'll bring it home soon so i can be more specific.
