No one tried to bomb the white house or anything! How uncontraversial. Just the expected explosions of lights and monuments. Perhaps next year!

Geesh! Expected explosions are never as thrilling and edge-of-your-seat as the unexpected terrorist type, you're right. Hard to sell tickets for, though.

you sell tickets on the notion of something exciting may happen. Remember when Geraldo opened some gansters vault? It took hours with bulldozers and shovels, and what did he find? More dirt. But how many people watched?
