h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Um, AT&T Broadband, that's the cable provider (the company formerly known as TCI). And they can't help yet, I did check on that. There are now some potential DSL setups that don't use Bell Atlantic, according to my preliminary web research. As in these are actually available in my area now. But I have to confirm with some providers to be sure. Also, someone from Verizon has called me this morning, so install may yet be imminent.

Did you yell at the guy who called?

Nope. They turned it on. Though apparently it should have been on much sooner. They called because someone was trying to order new service at my old place. Then they found the switch order that I placed and was subsequently cancelled by someone for some unknown reason. They did credit me a whole month's service and waive the $40 rip-off switch-on fee. The phone does work though. The answering machine picks up when I dial it.

Glad to hear it finally worked out.

(I still hate the phone company though)

I know it has made IM more interesting. Everyone seems to have gotten a life or something. That is, if they have a phone.
