Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary] Posted Jul 22, 2007
Well... I honestly don't care much.
The less formal stuff I have to attend in my life, the better. I don't do formal very well.
When my cousin in Brasil got married, we had to do the whole formal dressing thing. Renting a big fancy dress, getting our hair done, getting layers and layers of makeup put on (it was insane, whenever the lady doing it wanted to correct something she just put more basis-colour on top, and start working again over it!), and of course, high heeled shoes.
I can not stand high heels. Nor can I stand _in_ them for long. When we got to the wedding, I took the first chance I had to stash them under my chair, and walked barefoot the rest of the night!

Saw the news (and replied, sorta), done far too many formal'ish stuff, and really liked the simple and real life myself. I thought that you and your fellow graduates looked perfectly fine for the occasion. Pretences just ain't fun ...

We had to dress up for my high school graduation; I didn't attend my college ceremony. I've been to two formal occasions in the past five years, both weddings- for one, I was maid of honor, at another, a guest.
I like high heels in general, but that's because I'm so short! I don't wear them for work, though, because I walk around too much.

Does being short mean you need to screw up your spine?
Better face life real-size than wobble around on heels, I think.

A 'short anecdote' ...
1972, in a teeny village in southern Ontario. So small, that the Bishop visited every second year for Confirmation. So my elder brother and I went through the same ritual the same day. Later, at a reception in the school, we were all lined up like competitve sport teams, to shake the hand of the Bishop. When he got to me, ... he reached down and said "You don't have to kneel, my Son"
My reply? "But I'm NOT, sir !!!" I was that much of a runt, relative to all of my classmates, and my brother's senior bunch.

But in spite of it, you didn't feel the need to hitch yourself up on a couple of high heels, now did you?
I rest my case!

Hee hee hee ...
I also don't like formal occasions. Bleh!
Good job on surviving the new degree ceremony and have a great trip back to the States. Enjoy!
