Lady Pennywhistle - Back with a vengeance! [for a certain, limited value of Vengeance; actual amounts of Vengeance may vary]

Briefly, because it turned late all of a sudden... smiley - yawn where does time go?

So, first of all, I had a nice little First Degree Graduation Ceremony Thing a couple of weeks ago. I have pictures on Fotki, but won't link to them because my account is currently blocked. smiley - rolleyes I'll make sure and pay them sometime soon, and then I'll post a link.
I guess I could just find a good free photo-hosting site, but I don't feel like dealing with that hassle right now. Besides, I'm kind of a person of habit; I got used to Fotki.

The other bit of news is that I'll be off to the US again this summer. smiley - smileysmiley - loveblush
But to the other coast; Dan has gone to work at the summer camp that I've worked at some years ago, and I'll visit him there for a bit, and then we'll do some travelling after camp is over. Should be fun. And Dan seems to be having a great time at camp (currently still in orientation), so I'm happy about that.
Do check out his brilliant report of the cross-country train trip he did on the way to camp: F129157?thread=4209858&latest=1#p49638534
smiley - biggrin

I'll update this thread as things progress.
For now, good night!

As I seem to understand the threads, ... you will both still be too far away to reasonably find us for a visit. Oh well, you know that I still wish you the best of time that you can squeeze in. smiley - smiley

Glad he made it OK. Sorry I wasn't able to me much help with the train station thing. Maybe next time. Then again, maybe next time I'll be meeting y'all at the station? smiley - winkeye

Nick - Well, first of all, I'm afraid we won't get that far north, this time. smiley - hug Sorry...
And CouchSurfing is an online community of free hosting worldwide - people that are either willing to host travellers (/ show them around / have them for dinner / etc.), or are travelling and would like to be hosted (/ shown around etc.). Website is http://couchsurfing.org/ if you'd like to have a look.
On that site, I found a nice person that is living in the town right next to the camp Dan is working at, and thought it'd be fun to meet up, because she looked cool.
However, I am not a member of CS (I am on a similar community called Hospitality Club: http://www.hospitalityclub.org ), so I contacted Terri, who is, and asked her to get in touch with the aforementioned person. Which she did, and gave her my email, and I got a reply, and might indeed end up meeting up with her, even though she probably can't host.
So that's that story. smiley - puff

Now, PC (almost forgot there was another person I wanted to reply to) - no worries about the train station. smiley - smiley Like I told you before, it turned out to be a shorter stay than I thought it was supposed to be... and was apparently mostly passed trying to figure out the luggage problem, or generally being mad about the luggage problem.
As for Picasa, I know about it, and I think we even have that on the computer, but I really just can't deal with the hassle of creating and organising a new online photo-album right now. Fotki has its disadvantages, but I already have pictures and captions and comments on there, and don't feel like having to reconstruct everything somewhere new.

I hear ya. It's what kept me off moving away from Fotki for a while myself- I only left because my psycho stalker is there.

Here's hoping that some day Lady P and Dan have a longer stay in Chicago. smiley - bubbly Then all of my bad feelings will be assuaged. smiley - winkeye

Thanks. smiley - smiley

I got Fotki back up, so here's the photo album (for what it's worth) : http://public.fotki.com/LadyPennywhistle/graduation/

Dan seems to be having a pretty good time at camp, so I'm glad.
And I think he'll try takin a plane back, PC... so I guess that's a raincheck, about Chicago. smiley - winkeye You'll just have to wait.

Ah, there's not much to 'em, to be honest; we don't go for the big graduation ceremony things you see in the movies, with the gowns and funny hats and such.

Also, I will make sure to add at some point a picture of the lovely graduation gift we received... it's a purple little booklet thing with all sorts of post-it notes inside. smiley - laugh Well worth the three years of study, huh?

After far too many years in a uniform, and parades to honour nothing of consequence, I can only agree with you on that point. smiley - laugh

They've gotten rather ridiculous here lately. First they started having graduations for grade school and middle school. Now they have graduations for every grade it seems. We're drowning in pomp and circumstance.

I think it's getting worse here too. We're definitely getting bad influence from American movies as far as it comes to highschool-graduation parties - it used to be mostly quite simple, a few speeches and such, maybe some kind of play by the graduates with a bunch of comic (and usually incredibly bad) bits about school stuff, etc. In a lot of places it's still mostly like that, but it seems to be getting more and more complex and 'prom'-like (or is that 'homecoming'? I never did get the difference, and can't say I ever cared enough to remember it when explained). I think it's ridiculous. 99% of these people you're not even going to see ever again, except for the occasional and increasingly awkward randomly-meeting-in-the-street.

Difference between Prom and Homecoming (granted, from someone that went to neithersmiley - winkeye) : Homecoming is in the fall, after the last football game at home. Prom is in the spring sometime. Both are formal, with kings and queens voted for, but Prom may be more formal.

Wasn't there a Monkees song "Daydream believer & a homecoming queen"...sounds distinctly dodgy to me. Specially when sung by a small Mancunian.
