Barbara Ann Edwards, née Fairbairn part 2 - final

2014

Ann was found to have Ovarian cancer, which her mother had died of.

Our son Stephen, who had been in less than good health for a couple of years, living in Edinburgh and busily trying to make arrangements to move permanently to New Zealand, died in a diabetic coma on 18 July 2014.
Our daughter Andrea flew to UK to attend to the formalities, as Ann wasn't near well enough for me to leave her.

The news of Stephen's death seemed to hasten Ann's decline and she died a few minutes before 7am on 29 July 2014, at Nurse Maude Hospice, Merivale, Christchurch.
I arrived to visit her at 7am.

My thoughts are with you Rod. Obviously, nothing I can say can make it any better, but my thoughts are with you anyway. My thoughts are really really really with you, and your daughter. Dear fellow, what a time you've had.

...perspectives on the great dying time, I've lost more people that meant something to me personally over the last few weeks than I can recall losing over any past comparable time period.

Its up to those of us still in the world to carry on and provide a bridge of continuity into the future...

Oh Rod,

I'm so sorry to read of your tragedies.

Please let me know if there is anything practical that I can do - I'm only a wee way up the road. You can email me at lizdotgarsonatgmaildotcom which I check regularly, unlike h2g2.

Hold on tight...

Ah, I have friends in The Oaks. I pass by fairly often. I'm in Oxford. Just sing out if you want anything.

/aside

Did it again tonight...
I have problems getting home in the dark from Dorty's when the (Eyre) ford is closed.
I can, though, usually find the Oxford Road - then if the Hotel at Cust is on the Left, I turn around...
(sad, isn't it)

Hi Rod, I understand entirely. I get lost between Mandeville and Rangiora going cross-country. One NY night I only found my way back to Rangoon (I lived there for a while) by navigating using the moon. Took me an hour and ten minutes winding all over the Plains!
