Just a quick update on the progress of our ex-Editor, Mark Moxon, U13, who is currently walking from Land's End to John o'Groats...
Mark has been walking for near enough five weeks now, and he's got as far as Staffordshire, which is in the Midlands. He's slightly ahead of schedule at the moment which is good, particularly considering the number of awful blisters he's had!
Go Mark!

Mark's wearing an h2g2 T shirt as he is walking. So if you see a very weird looking scruffy rambler with h2g2 on his chest, along with an Ordinance Survey map case, you'll know it's him. Buy him a or something!

I would have though he could give his own updates, considering he's staying in Britain this time... he can walk into a net cafe can't he?

PS Oh yeah, i forgot to say something positive... erm.. how about: "Keep up the good work! "?

Good work Mark! What's prompted this mighty effort? Is he getting sponsored for charity?
Anyway, Tango, I've had a look on Mark's page and apparently his route is mostly through rural areas, so he's not got much chance of 'Net access. But if I see him in Bradford, I'll happily buy him a of Tetleys or Timothy Taylor's!

I'm in a rural area, i have net access. Whatever route he takes i'm sure he'll pass by a libary or net cafe at least once a week, and could stop off and let us know how he's getting on.

Hi all!
Mark's just about to leave Staffordshire, he should be on the Penine Way soonish, which is Yorkshire I think? Weirdly enough when he gets to North Yorkshire he's only made it halfway, Scotland is surprisingly huge!
Mark's not doing it for charity, he's writing a book as he goes along, which he hopes to publish some or all of one day. And he's doing it for himself, just to prove he can!

I'll let him know Ormie!
I don't know if he gets close to Bradford, but he might do, I'll have to have a look at his route!

Hi Tango,
I don't think Mark's much inclined to pop into net cafes at the moment. The whole point of the walk is to get away from it all for a while and do something different... I'm sure he'll see quite enough of computers when he gets back!

There, I've just posted up a Journal Entry, so I'm not totally ignoring you all. I am, however, thoroughly enjoying the lack of computers in my life at the moment, so don't expect another for a while.
Incidentally, I'm generally not going via places that have internet cafes (hell, most of them don't even have Post Offices!), and even when I do, I normally walk from 8am to 5pm, so they're shut when I have time on my hands. (I'm sending this from my parents' house in Staffs, where I'm taking a short rest. )
I think the next major town on my route is Edinburgh, in a month's time. Don't hold your breath!
