I've often been asked what exactly is a troll and I think the explanations give here are really comprehensive. The page details various types of troll and the tactics they classically use.

I enjoyed reading this page, and I'll definitely use it as a source of reference to point people to in the future.

A good article... but that Phil Elmore seems to be some sort of anti-communist. Boo!

Interesting, we've never seen anyone displaying almost every virtue of the troll described there on this site now have we?

The Deceptive or "Classic" Troll. More sophisticated but often easily identified and exposed, the Classic Troll gratifies his ego by pretending to be someone or something he or she is not. Classics make up elaborate stories about themselves, sometimes weaving some amounts of truth into their lies. As a web of lies is difficult to build with consistency, however, Classics are often "outed" by other forumites.'
