Tim Burton is a good visual director but he doesn't know a good story to save his ass.
Mars Attacks, Planet of the Apes, Sleepy Hollow?
Sleepy Hollow was aptly named... I fell asleep in the theatre watching it. When you have a witch giving twenty minutes of exposition you should know the script writer doesn't know how to write.
When he's got a good script, he makes a good movie, but he admits he doesn't know a good story from a bad one (in an interview I saw somewhere).
Now, granted... Kevin Smith is not a talented director visually and he admits it (in the commentary for one of his films).
So, yea... a Kevin Smith story with Tim Burton directing might have been something special.
But anyway, I also just ordered those DVDs.
Those clips were a hoot.
(Mrs. B, don't start with Jay and Silent Bob if you're going to watch the Kevin Smith films. Most of his are related stories in this order: Clerks, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and then Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. If you don't like the early ones you won't like the later ones. I like them but some people don't. I still don't see Jersey Girl as a K.S. film.)

I've really liked the Tim Burton films that I've seen...in paricular, Nightmare before Christmas, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow and really enjoyed Big Fish. I've been reluctant to see Charlie and the Chocolate factory as I have a special affection for the original.
But thanks for the tip Count, I'll do just that as soon as I have extra pennies to spend that my son and heir hasn't already accounted for.

I was very happy that I liked Big Fish... I was beginning to think Tim Burton wouldn't make another film I liked because of the string of ones he made that I didn't like.

I just don't like it when director's I've liked start making movies I don't. Ridley Scott has lost my admiration forever I'm afraid.

I know what you mean, it's really disappointing to have your expectations dashed. I can't think of any Ridley Scott films other than Alien and Blade Runner that I enjoyed.

I just imdb-ed Ridley Scott to see if there were any others.
Nope. That really is about it, isn't it?

Seems to be.
I hadn't realised he'd made Thelma and Louise. I think I'm just about the only female I know who really dislikes that film. *shrug*

There's a serious conversation in my journal!
I bet a flantwich that it gets silly in the next two posts.
I've not seen Jersey Girl, I don't think that I want to either.
Another one I've not seen is Blade Runner.

Yep, Alien and Bladerunner... Black Rain was ok-ish. I still believe there was only one Alien movie and it was a sci fi HORROR film... all the ones that came after adventure flicks and don't count.
Now... what would Bladerunner have been like if Kevin Smith wrote it and Tim Burton directed it? Would he ship been decorated in pastel colours and would Parker and Brett have talked on and on about the sex lives of imperial stormtroopers?
