but got to be up early, buying a new moniter today & shops are resricted to opening very silly hours on Sundays in the UK

They are?? What hours?? Maybe I am moving there!! I work retail and would vote for anyone who brought back the blue state laws!!! Oh for awhile Texas had what they called the blue state laws and you were only allowed to sell stuff like Aspirin, etc. it meant the mall was closed and I wouldn't have to ever work a sunday again

Stores over a certain size are only allowed to open for 6 hours on Sundays. means your local corner shop can stay open all day but all the big shops open about 10 & close at 4

& here as I understand it they cannot force you to work Sundays either

Oh my god!! I am moving now!!!!!!! I wish we were like that!! The only real laws are about age, anything over 40 you get paid time and a half(if you aren't on salary and I am)and you need 8 hours off between shifts(also if you aren't on salary) and people complain about taxes, hell I would pay more taxes to have more of a life!!

Summary
The basic rights and protections that the Directive provide are:
a limit of an average of 48 hours a week which a worker can be required to work (though workers can choose to work more if they want to).
a limit of an average of 8 hours work in 24 which nightworkers can be required to work.
a right for night workers to receive free health assessments.
a right to 11 hours rest a day.
a right to a day off each week.
a right to an in-work rest break if the working day is longer than six hours.
a right to four weeks paid leave per year.
makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy dosent it...
