AH! Here I find you! You have been of much help to me, and I am grateful.
Yes, I am still working on that bloody Infocom game. Rather frustrating sometimes. Oh well, it keeps me out of trouble smiley - winkeye
I'll pop round again soon to check on ya. Lata!

Hello again! I was wondering if you could give me some help on the Infocom game again. I've got to the part where the babel fish flies out of the machine and through a hole in the wall, just under a metal hook. I was wondering if you knew what to cover it with. I keep trying to cover it with the towel, but it tells me "You're not holding the towel". I tried using the screwdriver, toothbrush, and mail, but they all slip off the hook. Any suggestions?
I appreciate any and all help you can and have given. Let me know if I can help you with anything. I'm a vet tech, so I can answer some veterinary questions if needed.
Later! -Dale smiley - schooloffish

Did you help Arthur get dressed this morning? Help him undress. Hang the robe on the hook. Then cover the grate with something and things get harder from there.

Be sure you have the satchel and the mail and let me know if you need more, I'll check back in a couple hours.

Okay, I covered the hole with my dressing gown, covered the grate with my towel, and covered the robot panel with my satchel. Now a flying robot is taking my Babel fish. Any suggestions?
Thanks! -Dale smiley - schooloffish

Hi! My guess is you don't want me to spell out the answer to the puzzle directly. If I'm wrong, and you just want to get on with things, let me know, and I'll give you the answers to the next couple puzzles so you can get moving.

Otherwise, if you're still having fun trying things out... You need to put something on the satchel, to occupy the flying cleanup robot. There are a lot of things to try, but I named the right thing for you in my last post (don't look unless you've given up on this puzzle.)

Hope you're still having fun, and let me know if you want more clues, or you'd rather just have the answers.

By the way, what version of the game are you playing? The online one or the PC game? The Palm Pilot version? Just curious, it doesn't change the answers, I just wanted to know if you were able to "save" and "restore" or if you have to start from scratch if the game ends.

Too late! I found the solution online! I'm playing the online version, but I found a copy of the game on eBay. Wish me luck in winning it! smiley - smiley

The Infocom HHGTTG is a real ba*tard, and I think it feels great to get through a puzzle without cheating. But, if you buy the PC game, it includes a help system with *clues* (not just answers). At least the "Lost Treasures of Infocom" version does. Keep me posted on your progress! Good luck and Happy Hitching! smiley - esuom

I get so frustrated with puzzle games, so I'd rather cheat. smiley - smiley
Anyway, I lost the bid I had on the game...hoping another comes along or the winner won't be able to pay for it, then I'll buy the sucker. Mwahahaha!
This was a good one, too. Even came with the glasses, microscopic space fleet, pocket fluff, and demolition orders that came with the game.
Excuse me while I go utter some rather rude obscenities....

Ah, better......so how are you doing?

Doing well enough, but I've caught that dastardly flu thingy.
Who knew it came around every year? smiley - ill

I can send you the Z file for Hitchhikers, but only if you swear on a stack of bibles that you own a legit copy. Lemme know. Of course you could also search google for files with names like oh, um... *randomly picks sample name* "hhgg.z5"

Here's s'more info on Z files and a link to a Z interpreter: http://www.concentric.net/~Twist/WinFrotz/

Hey Mikey! I hope you're feeling better now. The flu hits me about once a year as well. My defense is a bottle of Nyquil and a shot glass. Afterwards I lay in a coma for 3 days and emerge feeling wonderful. smiley - biggrin
I didn't win the Commodore HHGTTG game, but I did win a copy of Starship Titanic. I'll still watch eBay for that game.
I've gone pretty far in the online version, but am stuck at the Bugblatter beast bit. I follow the directions given me, but still get killed. I'll figure it out eventually....
Keep in touch, mate! If I find a copy of HHGTTG you'll be the first to know!

Hey Mikey! Sorry I haven't responded sooner.
I finally beat the game! I now play it over and over to mock it. Mwahahaha!
Starship Titanic is awesome! The graphics are incredible and the story is fantastic. However, my monitor is very old and has poor resolution. So, when the game reset my resolution it messed me up and I couldn't even use Windows. Long story short, one trip to the repair shop and sixty quid later, I have my computer back and the game is on a shelf til I get a newer monitor. *sigh*
So....how's it goin with you?
Later!

Hey!
I'm still hung on Stationfall, but that's to be expected when you don't play often. Good to hear you beat H2G2, she's a real b*tch ain't she? I think it's got to be the hardest Infocom game I've played.

Starship is also a bit tricky, I haven't made it too far on that one. Keep me posted. You should be able to get a cheapo monitor at a trade show for $40-50 bucks (17"), just in case you didn't know.

Stay well and keep in touch!

Hey Mikey! Good to hear from ya!
Yeah, one of these comp shops offered to find me a good refurbished monitor for about 50 quid. Methinks I shall take him up on it. Right now my resolution is 640 X 480 (or something like that). That is as high as it will go.
Sad, isn't it? However, I shall count my blessings and strive for something better in the meantime.
Keep in touch, amigo! E-mail me sometime, or maybe I'll catch ya on one of the IM servers. [email protected]
Later!
