cornwall was lovely. stayed in a great b&b in the middle of bodmin moor. there was a big herd of cattle in the field next to the house. we met the beastof bodmin. he is a moggy called bogbrush. he regularly brings rabbits in that he's caught, and proceeds to munch on down! we walked to golitha falls(a waterfall), the hurlers(stone circles)and cheesewring(natural rock formation that looks very), avoiding the sheep and cow poo, as well as the highland cattle(blasted big pointy horns)that produced a lot of it! the scenery is breathtaking. bodmin is very quaint, and we visited the town museum, and the 2 old ladies that ran it, were a bit like the 2 old dears in the charity shop in the league of gentlemen.
the eden project is very well presented, and a lot of thought has gone into accessability for the disabled and elderly to get around, lots of land trains, wheelchair hire and a lot of benches etc. we stayed for a couple of hours, but it would be easy to spend a whole day there. went to newquay and got rained on. went to the aquarium there and saw a pacific octpussy. it was HUGE! as are the local seagulls there, look more like albatrosses...
darrenbought me a pearl and silver locket in the cornish pearl centre. the tamar otter sanctuary was fantastic, aisan shortclaw otters(very cute)and british otters(bigger than i thought), as well as a wallaby, peacocks that mug you for your pasty, fallow deer herds, owls, waterfowl and a little baby rabbit. spent quite a few hours there. they do a breeding and release programme for the british otter there, and at feeding time we got to go round with the keeper while he fed them and learn about different otter types, the breeding programme and who is related to who. their main stud otter, called ottie, has sired over 27 cubs, most of whom have been released into the wild. british otters can grow to 5 foot long!
we also went to tintagel, carnglaze caverns(an old slate mine which is now used as a concert venue-very). that week they had midge ure play, as well as a full production of carmen the following night!
there was a lot we didn't get to do, but there is always next year!
xx
