Hathornefer (ACE) Near miss - isnt that what you'd call a hit

I went to sleep last night, listenning to a play on Radio 4's archive that I had missed earlier in the week, which means going to bed leaving my PC connected to the internet. My Internet package is all inclusive and I have a pretty sound firewall - so it isnt a problem.

Well thats what I thought.

When I woke up this morning I was no longer online - that was ok because I could restart my PC. No, that didnt work. Despite several different attempts to log on I was getting nowhere. So I went to work. I got home from work at about 5 tonight and tried again. No luck. I walked away in disgust. Why do i keep getting messages about dialing tones when DSL doesnt have any?

Anyway....

After a short nap on the sofa (the news can do that to me) I woke up at 7.30 and decided to give it another try. This time it was different I accessed the net. I came here to see what was going on, and found myself subscribed to a number of conversations in which I hadn't posted - and (no offence to the author) I had no interest in. In fact 'I wasnt there guv'.

So, did someone reak havoc as me last night? are there loads of messages around the place from me but not from me? Wouldnt be too hard to unsubscribe to them! Is this why I was disconnected overnight? My firewall should have protected me from that kind of thing, but I am truly bemused and beginning to get that Marvin feeling.

NOW I find I also have a smiley addiction - too. smiley - cry

*snigger*

Dont know what happened with your server problem but i do know about strange mysterious postings appearing on your page! smiley - biggrin

Cos it happened to me and i wondered.."what on earth........, i never had anything to do with that" smiley - yikes

When you add someone to your friends list, there is a default action which automatically subscribes you to their journal entries and discussions on their page etc, so best thing to do - particularly if they are a very active contributor - is to visit their page and under the 'discuss this entry' button is an otion to stop receiving notifications about this guide. That way every time someone posts on their page, you wont get it too! smiley - winkeye

Hope that helps!

smiley - cheers
Mort
