in response to my expression of a genuine concern about the possible legal ramifications of things happening here I've been named a troll and a hypocrite on hootoo.
I confess, I've been feeling more and more unwelcome here, more and more uninterested in being here, and more and more sad, disappointed and bitter about here.
Maybe by now I am feeling a little resentful.
If I hadn't contributed so much to the Edited Guide, I wouldn't feel any attachment at all to the site. If I could delete my contributions I would, without hesitation.
I hope things improve and go well for the Guide, but there's no reason for me to be here any more or for me to recommend the site to friends.
Well, well, well.

In a nutshell, Clive, I'm having a very, very unpleasant time on hootoo when I'm not simply being horribly bored by it. I've been finding less and less here that interests me and more and more the attempts I make to engage or offer constructive criticism are rebuffed or dismissed. If I continue, I'm sure my tone will become more and more bitter, and that would do no one any good.
Best wishes.
Well, well, well.

I've been losing interest in hootoo for quite a while, partly because I was ill for much of last year and most of this one, and therefore lacked the energy, and partly because I've been putting what energy I did have into my career.
Now when I drop by, and I see my friends being unhappy, and/or disrespected, insulted and even harassed, I feel less inclined to stick around
I, for one, value your many contributions here, and your presence has been one of the few remaining reasons I do come by.
I like to think that I am not the only one who appreciates what you have done for h2g2.
If you decide to leave, no one could fault you for doing so, and the site will be greatly diminished by your absence
But... we'll always have parrots

Seconded.
I've been less active for a while - too much going on, but I never want to leave. I'm sorry if you're feeling disparaged cyber-

Due to it's clubby, Brit-centric nature I have despaired of this place being what it could be for some time now. Contributions by Aussies, Yanks, Kiwis, Canucks and ex-pats made it bearable, with some notable British exceptions.
Now my favo(u)rite Canuck is despairing.
Fourthed.
Well, well, well.
Effers;England. Posted Dec 22, 2011
Oi you forgot to mention the English. Many of us can't stand clubby Brits either.
I concur zoomer. And I'd like some more women here I can get on with. But I'll be damned if I'll recommend it to any in reallife. I'm not that mean.
I'm just here now to basically talk to people I'm friends with. And I have no intention of taking part in anything vaguely creative here again.
The tone of so much of the serious discussion on ASK I find totally stifling and uninteresting..with an undertone of meaness...and very male biased. Most women here don't seem interested in serious discussion.
Well, well, well.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.
I'll pop in now and then, I expect but until the mean-spiritedness that seems to prevail in most areas here, I'll stick to beer with Jaz'd, the Canadian place and a few journals.
If anyone is interested in books, here http://www.yelp.ca/topic/edmonton-whats-the-last-book-you-really-enjoyed-revisited is the recommendation exchange I've been a part of for a while.
Everyone welcome.

and I went by Noesis and pretty much cleared myself out of that place-- I got tired of my email inbox filling up with private messages offering prostate massage, etc.
Well, well, well.

Re: Noesis, I got a message from someone today called Mercy4all (spare me - not a Christian, please ) to say "I am a girl, I found you hear ON this site and picked interest in you. My name is mercy. I wish to be in love relationship with you."
Apparently unaware that I'm an out 'n' proud gay man.
The Interwebs don't 'alf bring out the crazies, which makes me appreciate h2g2 all the more - even when it's in it's doldrums we have some great people here. Thine own self especially.
Well, well, well.

Clive we are a third part owned by that outfit. People have been talking about them for months as all the meeting about new h2g2 went on over there. Still do as far as I'm aware, and Brian and Ally Noesis employees are now involved with this place.
The Noesis site is horrible in so many ways, and they own some gigantic thing called World chat that has zero to do with the spirit of h2g2. It would be too soon for me if I ever saw that site again. Funny that...that part of the outfit is basically a morgue. It's going to influence the direction of the site being part owned by them.
Haven't had any of that shit yet myself...but maybe I should be bothered to go back there and cancel it.

anhaga that you are so upset when you've given so much to the Guide.
You have also given so much too me. I have always valued so much your awareness of complexity of thinking..that's a very rare and precious thing.
We are very different and yet you seem to not have much trouble with my far more emotional nature. You have a very special lightness of touch.
We can meet to do with art. The language difference between us can meet there. ~ jwf ~ is also someone I can meet, and there are also different differences betwen us.
Humour and playfulness is also big part of being close and having good about communication. It was about losing marbles between me and ~ jwf ~
I hope to god he sticks around. My friends are leaving gradually in various ways.
blicky was some time ago...and that was hard...he is sorely missed here. Taff for practical reasons and also Taff at home cos he got labelled a troll here also I think. Tarrantoes a recent joiner I'm very sad has not come here, but I don't blame. 2legs is too busy being in love, but I also don't blame.
JEllen, a bipolar, got fed up with h2g2 even before changover
kuzuchi who suddenly became a friend after his medication changed for bipolar.
Gif very rarely posts now.
Well, well, well.

Just passing by.
I got that exact same email today Clive.
It seems Noesis has a robospamming problem, which is a little bizarre for a professional site these days, it seems to me.
Effers, something that has been troubling me lately is that you and to a certain extent ~jwf~ -- two of the most interesting people on h2g2 -- have been too often treated with derision, rudeness and cruelty by so many who seem to think themselves to be and are treated as fine upstanding members of the community.
Yes, you two are very different from me, but I'd rather talk you both or either of you than the crowd that uses most of the electrons on h2g2.
Goin' away to make dinner, etc. and then I should get to work on some writing (not for h2g2) I've been avoiding.
Well, well, well.
Effers;England. Posted Dec 23, 2011
Yes it's not nice.
We both don't know how to post for effect. Unless transparantly for humour, or even self mockery sometimes. A bit Oscar Wildish..if you know what I mean? And playful.
There's a lot of posting for effect here. Presumably we are judged by others assumptions as also posting for effect..and so it appears we are ridiculously affected.
I don't see the point if debate and discussion is to be interesting.
One thing I notice. So many people are inacapable of ever laughing at themselves...and it's funny you talk about 'Britishness'. For me that's the side of our culture to be really proud of...so maybe it's a lack of Britishness here?
Trouble is, you can't break the culture being only a few..you either get sucked in and play the game or opt out. Quite often I've got sucked in, in the past. But it never feels real to me.
I don't mix with such people in real life.
Well, well, well.
Effers;England. Posted Dec 23, 2011
And get on with your writing man...This thread won't go away. And you can be safe with FRIENDS here.
Well, well, well.
