WHAT!? and who is this 'Johnny' anyway?

no offence to Rugby fans world wide that would be over the moon at the latest BBC 'viewer grabbing, crowd pleasing politically correct' Awards Ceremony, but seriously the title of the award is 'Sports Personality'. i'll say it again, PERSONALITY.

now try this, Johnny Wilkinson - PERSONALITY.

doesn't quite fit does itsmiley - huh

still, what can we expect from a corporation hell bent on appearing fashionable and so stiff upper lipped that any other outcome would have probably lost jobs after all the hype surrounding it.

what more can we expect though from our commercial valuessmiley - sadface

but the real villains in this scandalous announcement are all those ale fueled gorrilla heads that bought the publicity and actually /voted/ for this decision.smiley - erm

i'm sorry, but if anyone from the english rugby team should have got it then i'd have said Clive Woodward. the guy smiled at least 3 times from what i saw and that was 2 more than Johnny!

this is just a small problem in a britain that is becoming increasingly controlled by that electrical box and it's moving images. a country that can't see past the headlines anymore to the real stories, the real heroes that keep society ticking.

the predictability of the 'Big Read' results another example. for months the media has been mentionaing the same books, and low and behold, what books make it to the top 5!smiley - book

well done to Wilko and the boys for THEIR achievement. now could the rest of us please start using our own mindssmiley - grovel

You obviously missed thhe Unsung Hero award, and Michael Watson recieving the Helen Rollison Award, award 1 was one by a man who runs a football team in a housing estate in Wales, he receives no payment and no accolades and Michael Watson has basically been forgotten while the man who nearly killed him is still seen on our TV and in newspapers regulaly.

Also what about Steve Redgrave, did Ale fuelled Gorilla heads vote for him then.

What your saying is the only reason Jonny Wilkinson one is because the rugby fans voted en masse and that the only reason LOTR one the big read is because of the hype over the films. It's what it says to me

that is exactly what i am saying except for Wilko winning just cos of the rugby fans.

think about it. how can a book win the 'Big Read' because of its film. 'Big Read' - FILM. doesn't mae sense does it.

and how can mr smiley himself win sports personality of the year when he is about as much fun as watching Alan Shearer sleep.

my point is how media motivated everyone has become without even realising it.

look at christmas and ask yourself, 'what does it all mean now'?

the answer is nothing unless you happen to be at the top of a corporation then the answer is as many zero's as the sheep will pay.

individuality is lost and those examples i thought were prime.

Ok who rattled you cage this morning

Lets face it it's been 37 years since an England team were champions at anything, even if the football team won the next world cup I'd vote for Beckham or Owen and I REALLY hate football, I must admit Pippa Funnell should have been in the top 3 but who the hell apart from Jilly Cooper and a bunch of Slone Rangers watch 3 day eventing if it hadn't been for the rugby who would have won it.

As for the Big Read, no-one is going to agree on the winner, I have never read LOTR or seen the film nor do I want to, I have read THHGTTG not read HP or Phillip Pullman, different people read different things, Alex is into Sabrina the Teenage Witch, I like 'chick lit' and my mum's ploughing her way through the first 3 books of A Dance To The Music Of Time by Anthony Powell, but when was the last time you saw any of the books in the Big read in the best seller list.

"37 years since an England team were champions"

there you go, you've fallen for it again. English teams have been champions of events. just not high profile ones like Football or Rugby.

Ok ok so I missed the coxless 4's and the Hockey, and rugby was never as high profile as football and probably won't be again when this dies down
