h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Go for it: one of the best walks I ever done I'd love to do it again, Me and a friend decided we wanted to do something over the summer hols from school, and we hatched this mad idea, of doing teh coast to coast, but realised we couldn't really afford it; So we did the walk for charity, the Cot Death resurch charity, and got sponsorship, raised over £2000 : But, it also ment, casue we were doing it for charity, that we were able to 'beg' and 'borrow' some camping equipment we didn't hae; a really decent tent, mainly, but also all the maps we needed we got on loan from a couple of local outdoor persuits shops; in return they got a mention on teh write up that got into the local papers We saved up so we had enough cash for camping fees, and eating and stuff, and the train fare up to teh start, and back from teh end, and we just went off and did it Had a great time Did it in about ten days if I remember correctly, so we didn't exactly kill ourselves with walking a million miles a day, though we ran out of money towards the end, and ended up with a 30 and a 45 mile days at the end; soon as we got to the end point we had the return train tickets so could get home : probably help me loose weight if I did it again now, but I'm nowhere as fit as I used to be

I was 16 I think Yep, must have been 16, which makes it just a tadge over ten years ago doesn't seem that far back in the distant past though can't believe its going to be my 27 birthday this November Strange though, as I thought people were ment to be 'adult' by that age

Next summer. We're actually going to do the Hadrian's wall walk.

Ahh, that will be higher up than we were; we went across big stretches of the North Yourkshire Moors Loverly scenery up there

Hmm, yes, guess it would be a slightly shorter stretch across the country Still a fair way though I wonder how much of the wall is still there? I think some bits still are

I've been to the wall; quite a lot is still left, but it's all ruined and short (2m high max).

I'm not sure if it would have origionally been that high, I seem to remember that origionally it would have been a big mounded up wall of earth, on top of which the wall would have been built, so the ground itself wouldhave given the total thing more height if that makes sense Guess the 'ditch' on teh England side must be clogged up and stuff now but guess its pretty old so it wold be quite erroded anyhows by now

It was origanily 3m high all along.

Ahh, so its lost about a metre... in those bits that its still there anyhow : Perhaps we shold build a new wall
