Depends what's in the squadron, dunnit?

What type of fighters do you know of that can distract an entire fleet?

well; Death Gliders, Coral Skippers, Sentri Fighters, Shadow Fighters, Vorlon Fighters, Vree gunship, XJ-7 X-wings (but only when piloted by Jedi and equiped with shadow bombs in addition to its proton torpedoes)

They can all distract fleets

I'll accept any fighter titled gunship since that sounds rather fleet distracting, and anything you put shadow bombs on with a jedi piloting it; but in the grand scheme of things most fighters in such insignificant amounts as a squadron shouldn't take an entire fleet to defeat.

Oh, and I'll also accecpt fighters piloted by Rogue or Wrath squardons.

as their skill, experiance, and instincts make them at least as good as Corran Horn, who is very good and freely admits that despite their lack of skill with the Force that Wedge and Tycho are far better pilots than he is

a squadron of either Minbari Nial class fighters or Earth Force Starfuries can distract a fleet of non-First/Ancient Babylon 5 type enmies, and could do the same to anyone in the Star Trek series, but against Star Wars and Star Gate enemies they would get schooled

Still, a medium armed squadron of normal fighters with average pilot's shouldn't distract an entire fleet.

Its just a bit on the side of overkill

Any fighter squadron with proton torpedoes can destract a ship, but only if the ship hasn't got a fighter defense.
