Banksy Speaks Out
Reality Manipulator Posted May 20, 2012
I know that the very few artists that become successful do get a lot more money than artists in the past, in particularly the artist Vincent Van Gogh who had lived the life of a pauper and had only very few if any of his paintings sold in his life time.

Weeds versus flowers? Sunflowers, roses, tulips, irises, and petunias (among others) enjoy a high reputation, and are often painted by artists. Chicory, dandelions, wild asters, clover, etc. are basically weeds. Nevertheless, I consider them fitting subjects for paintings. There are wildflowers that seed themselves so abundantly that the seed companies don't bother to sell packets of seeds for them. These would include buttercups and daisies. The funny thing is, there are artists who happily paint daisies.I'm fond of "Lucy in the field with daisies," though it is famous for being a bad painting.

It is hard to offend folk when painting flowers, the artist might get criticized for their execution of accuracy , the level of realism portrayed, have folk wonder as to the subjects relationship and it shouldn’t matter whether there wild , cultivated or weeds.
My angle is in the comparison of definition when using this analogy to the works of graffiti artists such as mentioned in the thread, I consider them as weeds, in that their work is, in my consideration, undesirable, unattractive and troublesome. In that it appears where it is not wanted, its subject matter is more a rebellious social statement than a piece of art and it is liken to Johnny rotten’s musical contribution in the late 1970’s

I think I understand the point you're making, and yet my soul cries out about limiting the places where art can be located. Meryl Streep said some very eloquent words about the ways in which art feeds us. Why can't art be everywhere, so that our souls never have to starve?
