I don't have a job at the moment, I've always managed on my student loan and holiday jobs, which is enough without getting any help from my parents, which I don't! no it isn't a struggle at all. A student loan for me works out as exactly the same as I'd get on income support. Because my parents are on income support it wasn't a change for me, the people who get into trouble are the ones who don't ahve a clue how to live cheaply.
It's cool that you give talks to medical students, I'm at Birmingham so I expect I'll have a talk from you sometime, we do the one day a week in a GPs which I really enjoy.
At the moment I'd like to be a GP, but I'll have to do hospital work at first anyway, so I'll see how I like hospital work. The hours for juniors have come down a lot, I think it's a maximun 58 hour week these days.

so they've gone to slovenia? can't say i've been to that neck of the woods but i've been an avid traveller in the past.
went on cruise around the med n been to egypt as well. been to many countries in europe as well as australia where 2 of my uncles live. we stayed over in singapore on the way there n thailand (bangkok) on the way back. bangkok was the most polluted place i've ever been to n i was too young to enjoy the red light district they have
yes my gf is fine thanks
well its getting light outside so it must be my bedtime LOL
take care sue n im just about to wite an email to you now havent forgotten LOL

hiya Z!
well the students i've seen were first year ones so im not sure if i would ever meet up with you
they were based at bham uni but they went to a gp's in dudley (keeling house, holly hall) which i live by.
have you been to this clinic?
that is most unusual that you want to be a gp. from what i heard from the student i've spoken to thats the sort of job they would go to great lengths to avoid. what makes you want to go into this field of work then?
have you had to deal with dead bodies then? don't think i could take that LOL bad enough seeing saddam's sons in the paper without seeing it in real life.
when my friend died who was on LD i had nightmares for days after thinking he was gonna drag me into his grave. not sure why i would have nightmares like that. im an avid dream lover. i find them fascinating that the human brain can have these sorts of visions while sleeping. i believe what we dream about is what we are feeling. i dreamt for years about killing someone at my junior school n trying to run away n something running after me. i worked out that in real life i was just running away from my resposibilities. don't do much dreaming now as i only sleep for around 3 hours at a time LOL

thanks phil for your very kind thoughts.i have tried sudafed once but they did not work very well. i have some cheaper dicongestants that work abit but do not get right up to my head. i have tried steam inhalations but they do not work and i not able to use to nasal sprays as i swallow it. i am getting better quickly, all i need is rest and drink plenty.
i have paid for my french course but as i am a carer they have found a way that i do not have to pay for courses and that i will be getting the full amount of what i paid for my french course back to me.
sue slovenia sounds a very romantic place to go for a honeymoon.
phil the furthest i have been to is israel in 1987.

phil i love the idea of going to egypt as i was very interested in the ancient egyptians when i was at school.
sue i was born in edinburgh. i have not been abroad since 1989. the channel tunnel is very good if you have a car as if they opened the train-route from scotland to waterloo-paris it would be make it alot easier to travel to france and other countries. or they could use more local airports ie southend for trips to france etc. most of the ferry and hovercraft service to the continent depart from kent, sussex or southampton it would be a very good idea if they spread the ferry service to europe aroud the uk so everyone would have a chance of going abroad.

Dont think I will travel now but I can still dream about the places id love to see, like you was interested in Egypt (im a closet archeologist, lol) love the digs you see on tv but dont like worms

I haven't been your that clinic, but I know which model they were on..
Well most first year students haven't had much experience of hospital medicine, apart from on ER, so they think it's always like that. When in fact it's like any other job, even people who work in A and E still have rows with each other over who's turn it is to bring in the biscuits. Oh and it involves sitting exams until well into your 30s, competing with your collegeues for jobs, moving around all the time to get the job that you want. I used to think surgery would be really exciting, but now I've seen operations I can't think of anything more boring. Everyone's stomach looks the same, but if they're awake and talking to you everyone's got different lives and different problems, which is the fascinating bit.
In my experience hospital medicine involves a lot of competion to get to the top. Also I really hate office politics(or ward politics), and it seems that because GPs work in smaller teams they get a lot less of that. I also fancy working somewhere where the management aren't in the same building.
Seeing dead bodies in anatomy is opitional these days, mostly we learn it from books, I have seen them, and have learnt to deal with it emotionally. It's difficult, but something I've managed to come to terms with. I don't know how I'd react if someone I knew died, it would be more difficult to deal with then. I haven't had any one close to me die, apart from a few tropical fish.

hiya kat!
that made me laugh you saying you swallowed the nasal spray LOL
have you tried to breathe in hot water with lemon in it?
well egypt was an amazing country.
the cruise ship let us off at Port Said n we went down this one road which took 7 hours (LOL) til we got to Cairo.
the museum was amazing specially to see Tutenkhamun's mask. its massive!
we then went on a camel ride to the pyramids. thats where it went a bit downhill really. the actual pyramids were great n you wouldn't believe how big they are. (they charge you for entering them so i didn't)
the bit i didn't like was all the egyptian's trying to sell you crap. one even managed to steal £20 off me. i stupidly left it in my shirt pocket n somehow he managed to take it without me noticing.
i've also been to israel. we went to jurusalem. thats a diverse city in itself. you get there n there's metal detectors everywhere but it's like a medieval city. thought bethlehem was overrated myself n where jesus was sposedly born that was a waste of time.
didn't think much of israel myself. now i'm not sure if we went to another place whilst we were there hmmmm. i'll check the photo's when i next get up!
hope you're feeling better now

hiya sue!
nope i haven't been to petra. when we were on the cruise we only went to the countries for one day trip so we were limited in the places to go. if you look on the map of egypt it looks like port said isn't_far_away from cairo yet it was 7 hours away! cairo has got to be the bigiest city i've ever been to in my life n i've been to london n bangkok.
the other places we went to on the cruise were crete, rhodes, turkey (kusadasi), egypt, israel, athens. think that was it really. amazing for a 'dreg' of society LOL

oh sue while i remember petra isn't in egypt i believe its in jordan.
do you mean that ancient city where you have to travel down a narrow passageway cut in the rock? it was in indiana jone n the last crusade i believe.
i can see why you would want to go tho as thats the sort of place i would like to go.
on my wish list is hong kong n tokyo! i'm not into these boring beach holidays really!
my idea of a hol is going out exploring the county n the culture not boozing it up in an english bar all day! you might think thats weird coming from a 26 y/o but there you go!
