I suspect it was an intentional attempt to create a particular collector's item.

'The broom is 35" from top to the bottom of the bristles. When turned on it vibrates & makes sounds. On the top of the handle in raised letters is : HARRY POTTER. The side state the following: HARRY POTTER characters, names and related indicia are trademarks of Warner Bros. 2001, Made in China. Uses 3 "AA" batteries. There are a few light scuff marks and stains on the handle, everything else is in very good condition, works great.'

"This auction is for a rare Harry Potter Nimbus 2000 broom. There are three modes, try me, off and on. When the broom is turned on it vibrates and makes swooshing sounds. The top of the handle says Harry Potter. This broom is dated 2001. This is aprox. 35" long. This collectible is a must have for any Harry Potter fan."

... Gotta love this: http://www.exposingsatanism.org/harrypotter2.htm
"It was with fear and a great sense of shame and guilt that I touched the cover of a Harry Potter book for the first time, and then forced myself to sit through the movies. For weeks I had prayed and asked for guidance, and I hope it was God's will that I did, and saw with my own eyes what is foisted upon the eyes and minds of our children." From the review, you have to wonder if she fell asleep and had to pretend she had seen it in order to review it.

It doesn't get much more southern that. Wasn't Lurlene the name of the county singer that Homer Simpson nearly left Marge for?
