35 year old blues.
Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted Posted Sep 9, 2005
Actually my glass usually has a bloody big crack in it
I think it is more about where I am in my self.
Yes having a partner is lovely, but they don't always last forever even if you want them too.
I am also not sure what 'kind of partner' I want to spend my life with (those that know me can probably work out exactly what I am referring to when I say that )
I think finding my birthmum has probably affected me on this issue too. Since tracing her it has opened up a new world to me. Being part of a family has never meant anything to do with genetics or blood relations. It has always been about who is loving you and being your parent. (in my opinion).
But since tracing her I have realised how important it is to know that you have the same eyes as someone. Before it never mattered - it was something alien to me - I just never thought about it as it wasn't relevant. But it is like anything, you never had it so you never missed it and it didnt matter. Now I realise the effect it has had on me; that it has reinforced those feelings of wanting a child.
Yes, I could go and have one night stands. But at the moment I am so screwed up in my head that I worry that I will never be stable enough. And by the time I am, it is too late. Because my parents couldn't have children then I have seen the pain, and I don't want to look back in 15 years and feel that kind of pain too.
Because time is running out (biological clock), I feel torn between heading in the direction I want to, and the realistic fact that I don't even see my life continuing for another year.
That is why I set myself a target of 35 to get myself together. Now I am there. And I don't honestly see the point in setting any more.

Mort, I don't know you too well, having only been on the hootoo scene for 3.2 minutes... But.. you don't sound to happy... I know this may sound lame, but if there's anything I can do to help, just be an ear to listen, or whatever, let me know?
Anyway, *hugs*

Thank you,
Sometimes I get fed up of pretending how I feel and it sneaks out. Don't worry about it.
Nobody wants to hear that kind of thing as it is hard to know what to say or do. I don't like to think of it either. I am used to it most of the time but sometimes it spills over into the 'pretend online world' I choose to live in.

Although I can't help thinking this is one of those gimmick stories as it doesn't say anything we didn't know already.
Some woman has just published a report on it is now putting the fear on infertility in everyone

One of the guys at work asked if this report means men will be in more demand
Mort, as far as I know he's still single! He's got a bit of cash and a lovely house

His problem is he comes across as desperate, but he's such a sweet guy (and not ugly!) you wouldn't think so when you first meet him.

I'm not really here Posted Sep 17, 2005
Ha! I can't believe that obstetricians have only just noticed that it's defying nature to delay having babies, at all, let alone until you're over thirty. I bet they're all men.
Someone I worked with at iVillage had a baby at 35 (her first), as did a friend of mine (her 4th) and neither had any difficulty getting pregnant.

My half sister was a late baby too come to think of it. My b-mum was over 40.
It is indeed a blessing - trouble is women are packed with hormones that are designed to make them want to reproduce. They are very strong in some, and not in others.
Natures way of making sure the species survives. Not only do we get sent crazy every month but it messes with heads all our life
