Just realised I haven't added a journal entry in a while...
I got in to the opera, and am now busy rehearsing the music.
This'll be my fourth year as a chorus member for the opera. Always a truly mad experience, but well worth it.
Anyone in the Canterbury area in the first week of June, come along! Gulbenkian Theatre - 'The Ephesian Matron'/'Dido and Aeneas'

Dido and Aeneas...We will be putting that on at our spring concert (I play in the orchestra at my school). Would you mind explaining the storyline, as I am an expert in the orchestral parts but our conductor has not bothered to tell us what the singers are doing?
It sounds like you'll have a great time. Have fun.

Right, the precis of it is:
Woman (Dido) is mourning her lost husband when a hunky soldier (Aeneas)comes along, and mutual attraction is experienced. She is the ruler of Carthage and doesn't feel it would be politic to admit the attraction, but eventually she does and everyone goes off "hunting". But an evil sorceress doesn't like what's going on so throws a spanner in the works by sending a spirit disguised as the god Mercury to tell the soldier he must move on, which he reluctantly decides to do. He and the woman have a good argument before he leaves, and she then either kills herself or dies of a broken heart. Cheerful, eh?
