h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

"Just a thought" from loup:

It came to me as i was adding a few links to the "Some Useful Links etc" page...

At the beginning i wanted to put a few examples of how the members of the LeisureDistrict community in H2G2 are contributing to this site...

Then i thought: "Why not going further and listing our fellow LDers most important entries?!"...

And of course it would not mean just LDers who are relatively new in here; there must be some former LDers too among the "established" H2G2 Researchers...

IT would not really be a guide but more like a compilation of entries written by (former and actual) LDers...

The next step of course is to think of categories... some are kinda obvious... hehe... "The Unknown" and "Fiction"...

Any other suggestions?!... [not sure if "poetry" is a good idea as we don't really want to tempt fate with "classic" kow around... hehe]

Anyway that's the idea at the mo'...

Will be very useful. Suggestion? Well perhaps as well as/or if there are LD members who have not submitted Guide entries per se, putting a list of their hobbies/interests beside their name. This way others interested in the same hobbies (even if not used curently in the Guide or conversations) would have someone else they could talk to about yoga/motor cycle racing/Bollywood films etc?

yep... as contributing to h2g2 is not just about writing entries... Conversations being ALSO very useful...

might have to be a seperate page tho'...

Can we do a section on "The Environment" Please, as I don't think we have a catagory to cover those things and as a member of The Woodlands Trust It would be very helpful.
One piece is already done that could fit into that catagory and I'm working on another.

Are they good entries Loup?

paladin's one is about the disease for rabbits [can't say the name and can't remember how to write it either...] that was imported in this country to get rid of the little bunnies...

romani's entry is on dowsing with pendulums... sure brought some interesting discussions in peer review...

yours... it's about spice girls isn't it?!...
ooooops... wrong entry... manson if i remember well [i do hope i've got it right this time]...

both informative and interesting... of course the final polish by the subs can be tricky as it depends how much of the comments made during the peer review will be acted upon...
for romani's one it was important that a balance be kept but at the same time we had to be careful that some of the suggestions do not change the point of the entry...

actually that reminds me, i better check if paladin's entry has finished being edited by now [should be really... it has been picked quite a while ago]...

and of course me: nothing... then again i haven't anything in mind that would really fit the guidelines...

You should do one about the MIB phenomenon...sounds like you would know a bit about it...

mmmmm... the MIB...

tricky one that one...

still got more information to add first...

but to get something on that subject accepted for the guide i would have to do a special version which would more or less says that the MIB might not exist...

which by itself would be a lie as even if they are "normal" people playing tricks they do exist and some people are being harrassed by them...

of course with careful wording like "according to the witnesses" etc... it might be ok...

but i have to finish the project first... and then see what can be done... actually that could be an interesting challenge...

in fact i can see how to get the skeptics agreeing with it...
as long as i list all the theories including the one about the hoaxers then it's up to the readers to make their mind up... and there is nothing saying that the "phenomenom" doesn't exist... the descriptions would be "according to the witnesses" anyway so there again it will be up to the readers to believe what they want to believe...

i've got until the arrival of my new [second hand] computer to not only finish the project itself [putting the information together really] and prepare a workable plan...

it seems that my end of year break might be busy after all...

Well, you want to let people make up their own minds...can't force your opinion on them. You *wouldn't* have to make it sound like they don't exist. Just pose the question *Do the MIB really exist?*, start off with evidence against/sceptical stuff, then do a big HOWEVER and put across your view...

Simple really.

The piece was The Myxoma Virus on the South Downs

Its finished with the sub-eds now and is at a place called The Towers for final polishing Its been there for about 2 weeks now I think so should be in the guide very soon now.Hopefully by Christmas.

If you do an entry on the MIBs loup your going to need more than 1 or 2 pages for it or you might have to split it up into different categories as there is so much info on them.

Yep! I started using LD in January of 2001...never spoken to any of you lot on there though. But then it has to find intelligent people amidst the cattle market of the chat rooms. I don't have the same name on there either!
